Stuck....for sure?
I got stuck on an off the cuff off road jaunt. There are the remains of an off road course (for tracked vehicles) near me, I had played on humps, dips, ruts and puddles with no drama. 8)
Driving home along some old ruts on the wet swampy field was when I got stuck , Low range mud ruts selected, wheels slippin like they were on grease, every time I touched the throttle in either 1,2, or 3 command shift it got deeper...desperation ensued and finally when I tried to reverse a little it gripped just slightly....this told me (I may be wrong) that the CAR had decided the right amount of torque.
So I put in Drive and gingerly touched the throttle, again the car started to move slowly and IT was doing the thinking, when I stopped slipping all over I got a little speed up to ensure I didn't stick again.
Is my trust "Drive" just a bit of luck...I am sure other posts have said use command shift pretty much all the time
I didn't think of it at the time...but should I have turned off DSC, I have calmed down now, all good fun though
2.7 tonnes slipping in a direction you dont want to go is a bit worrying!

You should have killed the DSC for sure. What most likely happened is you invoked extended mode on the suspension, and the car raised higher to provide grip.
Just a note that you should have seen the Extended mode indication in the LCD panel. If you hold your foot on the brake and press the suspension UP lever for 5 seconds, you will get a further bong and the car will go into even higher 'super extended' mode.
If it still won't move after all that, then you really are stuck 8)

You did the right thing rocking her back and forth. Also DSC probably would have made no difference unless you were trying to power up a slope. Then its a pain in the ass.
The road tyres you were on are pretty useless on swampy grass (in fact most tyres are). Wet grass is THE worst surface to negotiate with any kind of decorum.

DSC is one of those debatable things I guess... I leave it one unless I need to ensure power up a slope... but generally forget to turn it off anyway

I suspected as much, I didn't think of it or I would, I won't go back to put it to the test till its a bit drier! as for the extended mode, youre right I was in it.
I don't recall info on the LCD but I was stuck and I wasn't looking for it.

I always switch DSC off and if things look serious last ditch stick it in rock crawl and go for it At a recent LRE event I see they now train putting autos in D for everything except downhill, it used to be put it in 2nd.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Until I mess up again I like D, Obviously when we do things like the steps (Roych Clough) at the peaks you need precision and then clearly lets command shift, DSC off DSC off DSC off DSC off DSC off

nope... a few have used blocks of wood to fool the system - but its not recommended.
