Key fob u/s

So I go away to work for a few days and find I can't open the D3 using the key fob as it seems to have lost the will to work!

I did notice last week that it was a bit hit and miss, but now it doesn't seem to want to play at all... Which is a pain in da bum! I can see I will soon get bored of climbing in through the passenger seat Laughing

so, to those that have been here before, what are the options and costs? Can a new battery be fitted easily, is it a new key or can I get an after market one?

All answers gratefully received

New key is around £100 from the dealer, ordered to your VIN. A new battery (around £4 from electronics supplier) can be fitted - do a search on +key +battery - but it requires a soldering iron as well as care & patience in cracking open the fob. Not heard of any after market ones.

I changed the battery in my spare key. It had sat in a kitchen drawer for about a year and after a week of use in the car, it would not hold any charge.

It is a bit fiddly to split the key apart, but if you do it slowly, it can come apart neatly.
Gently cut around the seam with a sharp knife but don't cut too deeply.

You need patience to do this & a steady hand.

The re-chargeable battery is a Panasonic VL2330-1HFE (horizontal fitment) 3 volt coin cell.
These are widely available.

You'll need a soldering iron to remove the old one & fit the new one.

I ordered a couple from CPC & cost £2.57 + vat each.

I also bought a new key body from ebay.
Stuck the new body back together with super glue & it looks new & works great.

Somewhere on the forum there is a very good battery change write up.
