Manual D3's withdrawn from LRE Centres

Just booked a day at an LRE Centre and have been told that LR are withdrawing all Manual D3's from the Centres from early January.

Don't know if this is exclusively D3's or all manual models.

Anybody know why ?

Uneducated guess is that it is easier to teach people Autos than Sticks. Makes for more efficient behind the wheel time.

That'll be a load more silvers on the 2nd hand market, then.

What's the point? Everyone knows manuals are better off road! Twisted Evil

The D3 manual is now to be an option only. All D3's will come as an auto unless you specify otherwise. This was what we were told when our last batch of D3 auto's arrived.

[rumour] Possibly LR are dropping the manual box from the D3? [/rumour]
Or, more likely, as LRE is now being targeted at prospective rather than existing owners, they want to sell more auto's as a)there's more profit in them and b) the systems integration provide a better 'experience' on and off road for drivers with little or no training Whistle

This one's aimed at the experts: in what situations, in your opinion, would a Manual have the edge over an Auto (in or out of Command Shift mode)?

Manuals can utilise full engine braking, auto's cannot Wink
Reverse torque can break an auto - but not a manual (although it can stall the engine)
Manual's don't shut down in prolonged high temperature & load environments...... can ya guess what does? Wink

I've had manuals all my driving life ...but I wouldn't go back now. Appreciating that the manual will have certain benefits when off-road...the overall D3 experience is enhanced by a fantastic auto box IMHO Wink
