noise at cruising speed

Had this noise for a while and have decided to ask here to see if anybody else has had the same.

When cruising at 40, 50 60 etc, there is noise that I cannot explain, but sounds like a suction or squeel.

AS soon as I throttle off the noise goes, but a few miles later in returns?

Any ideas

I’ve had very similar noise in my 05 disco I thought the same as the others turbo or intercooler problem, I got it very early on in the life of the car. I have had it to the dealers they have checked the turbo and intercooler and all related fittings and found no problems with them. It is still there but has no discernible effect on the car other than the driver.
Regards

Been using it since last Thursday and it defenitely seems that the engine runs smoother.
- On ignition the engine sounds less rough.
- More quiet at cruising speed

But the biggest improvement is this (don't know if any of you expereience the same);
When I am driving and I take my foot of the throttle there is a distinct resonance/vibration/noise when the speed drops. Its not loud or disturbing, more a bit annoying. When my car is serviced and the oil has been renewed these symptons have gone to reappear again over a few thousand Km.
This resonance/noise now has become a lot less to a stage where it's no longer annoying.
Lubrication seems to be much better because of TSL and therefore probably less wear on the engine.....

Can't comment on the MPG at the moment as I only have done short distances and no highway. Will comment on that as well as soon as I have done a long stretch.

I used it for my Freelander as well but don't have feedback on that yet. Poored the remainder into the Disco's fueltank this afternoon.

So far I can recommend it everybody. Thumbs Up

Is this similar to your noise issues?

Hi no, my noise starts when at about 40mph and as soon as I throttle off it goes!!

I also thort a leaking pipe, but haven't had it checked yet, it is going in for a water ingress issue next week so will ask him to look then..

It def sounds like a sucking noise and the car does not suffer from it!!! drives fab (at the mo)

Have you checked that the A-pillar trims are correctly fitting / seated tightly? These can make some odd noises and potential source of leak. (as is the plastic cover panel that seals against the bottom of the windscreen)
Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead, A panels, vent panel & outriggers now disintegrated - Next years project!

I think the leak is from under the panel that seals the screen, I read an earlier thread about it and thats whats being checked first... the panel that sits on the screen doesn't have the best seal but all the indications are the problem is from there, but will def check those A-pillar trims as well

Hi a17thc,

I have exactly the same problem, but no solution (I am not an mechanic) Wink.
My friendly dealer has no ideas too...

He confirmed the noise from 100 KM/H. But we cannot distinguish, if it comes
from front or rear. With increasing speed, it gets a little bit louder.

I friend of mine thinks about a problem with the viscous coupling from the fan.
Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks
SIL
