ZF MANUALgearbox oil change |
|
I read the Topic opened by Character here:-
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic82399.html
on the manufacturer ZF's views on oil changes for the auto gearbox fitted to the D3.
I decided to contact ZF to seek their comments on the manual gearbox fitted to the D3.
In essence what they say is the manual gearbox is "Filled for Lifetime" which means the gearbox is "designed and tested for 160.000km (c. 99.4k miles) in very hard testing conditions that covers ~99% of possible customer uses."
The correct oil for the manual gearbox is Castrol BOT 338, which is of course only available from LR Dealers, Land Rover Pt No TYK500030. Also see this thread regarding BOT 338:-
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic29868.html
I have decided that I will change my gearbox oil at c. 50K miles, as I don't expect that all the old oil can be drained out, even overnight. One needs 1.6 litres of oil, but helpfully LR sell it in 2 litre containers!

I've looked at the Fuchs website here:-
http://www.fuchslubricants.com/index.php?c...e&sub=
VERY confusing.
Have a look at their recommendations for oil change intervals particularly distance/time; maybe it's a translation problem but if that's the case it's not very reassuring.
