Front Brake disc removal (change) |

Hi,
i´ve been searching a lot for this topic but didn´t find infos.
What tools do i need to change the (front) break discs ?
It´s mostly the problem of dismounting the caliper.
Can somebody tell me, how it is mounted and how it can be dismounted ?
Do i need special tools e.g. special torx nuts that you need when changing the caliper of a smart ?

There's nothing hard about doing D3 discs & pads
1 Jack, stands, remove wheel
2 Ease wear sensor off frt left, rear right only
3 Hold lock nut with pliers or 15mm spanner, remove calipher mounting bolt 15mm socket,
4 Ease off calipher & pads
5 Remove 2 calipher carrier bolts 15 or 17 mm, lift off carrier
6 Undo retaining screw PZ2 near center of disc and pull off
Replace in reverse order, using some copperslip on the slides, rear off pads. You might need a small G clamp to push the pistons back into the calipher. Check brake fluid level and gently bed in the new brakes.

But these are brakes, safety-critical so apply the correct torque to the bolts on reassembly, no-one wants a caliper coming adrift... Cheers

Hi all,
thanks for the hints,
and yes you are right, brakes are safety relevant parts which need special care.
I would not do this if i didn´t make experience in changing brake elements for cars like BMW 3-series, Ford Mondeo, smart 42 and Porsche 996.
The only thing i want to prevent is that if i have dismounted half of the brake and then realize that i need a special tool for loosen a special screw, bolt etc. Therefore a DIY would be very helpful.
As i mostly do these jobs sundays it´s very disappointing if you have to rebuilt everything without finishing work ´cause you need a little tool
