2012 to latest software update

I have a 2012 D4 HSE and was wondering what the LR policy is for updating of the AV / navigation software (where possible) when updates have been made to newer factory cars?

If there is newer software on the cars coming out of the factory, can these updates be applied to cars with the same hardware?
