Hi,
Pulling away from standing, I get a deep noise similar to a steam train pulling away (ie: regular noise getting shorter in length and with shorter intervals as speed increases).
It's not affected by engine revs, transmission range, coasting in neutral, braking, although turning one in one direction seems to almost stop it. Doesn't make the noise when revving whilst stationary.
Does it sound like a wheel bearing? Never had them done and now on 126K.
Many thanks,

My first bearings went at 2yrs/~30k miles. All been replaced twice now & waiting on next load to start.
PS doesn't sound like bearing rumble unless it's completely fallen apart. CV joint? IMHO.

Hi John
Mines started a with a similar noise over the last week. With mine it seems louder when taking right hand bends as the nearside loads up and eases when turning the opposite way. A mate reckons its my wheel bearing my D3 has only done 88000 and we think it's the nearside wheel bearing which I had replaced at Duckworth about two years ago.

Thanks very much everyone. Interesting note about the CV joint - though I'm not getting any clunking or too much vagueness which I'd guess would be more CV related do you think?
Just checked old documents and 16K ago I got an MOT advisory that there was slight play in one of the wheel bearings - but within limits.
What are thoughts on driving (to dealers) with worn bearings (or worn CV joints for that matter)? Concerned about collateral damage...
Many thanks,

It should be fine, I drove 1000's of miles with a grumbling wheel bearing. No collateral damage.

You want to get it done sooner rather than later
A disco 3 can go from slight play to absolutely in a few hundred miles. At that point, the only thing holding the wheel on is the brake disc... Wouldn't be me, personally My D3 Build Thread

Useful - thanks not intending to drive miles, just whether it would get me 30 miles to the dealer... 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

Sounds exactly the same as mine and was the front bearings (mines done 120k) dealer was going to charge £695 to fit ! ended up getting 2 timpton bearings for £120 each ish and a local garage to fit for £140. So saved alot doing it this way. Apparently they are a to get off sometimes. They had to use a hydraulic ram on one of mine. So just be careful of dealer price !

Thanks very much for all the help.
All sorted today - see here: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/post963132.html#963132
It was a wheel bearing - probably weren't many miles left on it!
Duckworths were superb as ever!
