additional oil pressure display
Hi
I want to fit an oil pressure display/gauge to my D3. Maybe a oil-temp gauge as well.
Just for my peace of mind.
I found surprisingly few informations/Pictures of aftermarket Displays/Gauges mounted in a D3.
LRTime mounted one in the roof lightning.
I have a similar setup in my Landcruiser, and I think its not the best position for it.
Its completely out of the field of view. And the distance is very close to the eye, so its always hard to focus on it and focus back on the street.
Others mount it down at the ash-tray. Same thing, or even more useless. I never look down there.
I couldn't find anything that is mounted on the dash.
Could it really be that nobody has done it?
I'm more or less searching for "inspiration". Some pictures and so on.
They are pretty small and have good quality sensors. So I want to use them again.
But at the moment I don't know where to put them.
My first Ideas:
maybe in the edges below the revcounter?
Or in the small panel on the side? But first I wanted to fit some aux-switches there for Lights
Or on the "outside" of the Tacho-unit. Or maybe as a reflective Headup display on the side of the windscreen?
Whats your recommendation? Any ideas? any thoughts?
I have a 3D Printer, and can do some special housings for the displays
Best regards

I watched thar video too, it was very good, but I agree there must be somewhere better mount it. I'd be interested to see what options are suggested.Discovery 4 GS 2009 Auto Stornoway Grey

I mounted one on the steering cowl behind the steering wheel off center, I never got round to piping it up but I did run with it there for several months without any problems, the hardest part I found and the reason I have up was lack of space connecting it up from under the oil pressure switch. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Personally when I finally get round to it will fit mine on the right hand side of the steering wheel
Hope that helps as another possible option

I’ve been thinking this would be good to do on mine (petrol V8) as well. However I’ve just learned my pressure switch is below the engine, so I’ll be waiting until the next oil change —at least! Hopefully you all find a good place for it by then
What about a pod on the A-pillar? I do like that spot to the side of the steering wheel, in the dash.
If you are doing multiple gauges you might want to find a good spot for multiple pods so you only cut 1 big hole.2008 LR3 HSE, 4.4L V8

A Scan gauge can provide the required information - it can mount on top of the steering column. Can also provide a lot of other information.

@gstuart: I also thought about this position. I could do a whole 3D printed part to substitute this side panel.
@garrycol: I don't think that the OBD2 interface can provide the real oil pressure. As far as I know there is only the oil pressure SWITCH mounted on the engine.

Don’t do it if “peace of mind” is your goal
It will do the opposite…
For peace of mind, fit a new oil pump, pref.. after each 100K (km)
Maintain it well, fresh oil regularly, proper brand filter, etc. Etc…
If i buy a new motor/car i always put in new bearing shells, but that is me

I checked this position. But I cannot see it when I'm driving.
I printed a first holder prototype. It sits on top of this panel you used. I think this position is the best place in terms of view and its decent from the design point of view.

Its still a prototype, but it looks good. some black painting and it looks almost genuine.
Maybe the same thing on the other side as well.

Hi
Sorry didn’t see it sooner, is just the panel that clips on the dashboard , right hand side down by the light switch

Hi
Many thks and indeed think that might not be the best place where I’ve installed the display , also have some of the Aux gauge panels that replaced my ashtray but again don’t think that’s a very good location
Really like the idea of ur prototype and would be nice getting a nice small display fitted
Following with interest and hope it’s not cheeky asking , but if u do a 3D printing am more than happy to pay if that would be ok please
