Loud noise from rear (passenger side?) |
|
Hi, I own a Discovery 3, 06 reg, and have recently heard what can only be described as a very loud (loud enough to make you jump) whizzing/whirring/screeching noise when parking, turning the engine off and removing the key from the ignition. The noise has happened 4 times and only when I've parked on my driveway (which slopes downwards - not sure if that is relevant). The noise sounds to be coming from the back of the car - and I think from the passenger side. I noticed yesterday that the noise didn't happen until I removed the key from the ignition - there was about a 5 second delay between me turning the engine off and removing the key. Just wondered if anyone has any idea what could be causing this? I don't have any warning lights displayed and the car drives fine!
thanks!

Unnecessary quote removed
Its the Electronic Park Brake (EPD).
Assuming your car is a manual the EPB will automatically engage when you remove the ignition key.

The functioning of the EPB is short noise (maybe 1 second) that sounds a bit like a dentist's drill. If it is making an agonised metal-on-metal screeching that's a problem. VIN: A175A328***

Thanks - yes, my car is a manual and I did wonder if it was connected to the EPB as the noise has only happened when I've parked on a slope.

Sounds like your park brake req adjust do not just leave it as the noise u may be hearing is the plastic gears slipping if left it will fail.
