Alternator knackered = D3/D4 will not run! Too many electrical gadgets that are involved in the overall vehicle management systems, therefore total shut down.
I'd charge the battery, purge the fuel and give it another shot

Crank shaft position sensor kaput?= injectors injecting fuel at the wrong time.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

And the winner is .......... M3DPO! Before I went on hols, I went to a different petrol station, 0.5 miles away and not my normal route. Turns out they've had a major problem with fuel contamination, had to dig their forecourt and replace lots of equipment. My disco got contaminated fuel but the existing fuel in the lines was just enough to get me home. My local Lr specialist had to remove and clean debris from the tank, flush the lines, replace fuel filter. Car going better than ever & someone else has picked up the tab! Thanks for your replies. G.

You should (try to) get an indemnity or warrantee from the fuel station for problems in the next nnnn miles or nnnn months contributed to or directly or indrectly caused by fuel contamination.

It was water and dirt which was found in the fuel tank.

Isn't the job of the fuel filter , to remove anything above about 7 microns, anything in the system before the filter should be able to handle the "dirt"Altox GSM FBH controller thread

I would have thought the strainer filter on the bottom of the in-tank fuel pump, and also the main filter would have caught most of the dirt in the fuel...
Would probably be worth putting a new filter on if it has not been done yet, just in case My D3 Build Thread
