Hello everyone
I have a dilemma! I'm on the verge of buying a new TDV6 S. Should I:
A) stick with the standard 18 inch alloys (Style 1) OR
B) go for the option of the 19 inch alloys
If I opt for B) it turns out that I will have to order a vehicle and wait until November which will really knock down the value of my part exchange. If I go for A) I can have a new vehicle in a fortnight.
What do you reckon about the advantages and disadvantages of each wheel? Have you got a strong opinion? Perhaps it is not even an issue ...
Thanks for your help.

Hi, will they not change them for you as part of the deal?
I would try & push that one!
But you could always change them if it means that much & flog off the 18" on ebay!

Thanks Nick.
The dealer will swap them but only at a cost way over the price as an option.

Hi GP, welcome to DISCO3
The other option is to stay with the 18" inch wheels, and then try and find a set of 19" from someone on here/eBay or somewhere like Nene Valley Off Road. Just a thought 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Other things to consider:
2006MY 'S' version no longer has Bi-Xenon as standard, nor Cold Climate pack. You get the Bright pack instead. Result is a £600 drop against you
2006MY have some different paint choices.
Others here will give you the reasons on getting 19" wheels - I couldn't see the point of spending the extra, so I'd only tell you not to bother If you want your car to be a street statement, then spec. some dark glass, buy after-market 22" wheels and drive it sl-o-o-w on access height! Thanks Martin - this sounds like a good option.
But do know if there are any practical advantages to the 19 inch rims?
Very impressed by the site.

Hi Gareth
Pratical advantages, not sure, but they look better
As BN found out today, Range Rover Sport 19" wheels will probably fit a D3, so it might be worth holding out for those if you fancy something a bit different 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Thanks DrLex.
The 'not to bother' option sounds like the cheapest option!

Also DrLex, unfortunately, there are no streets near where I live to make a statement.

Yep Martin - they do look good.
Just trying to find a genuine reason to spend more money. I've owned Defenders and Series LRs for years so I just need to convince myself of the value.

18" wheels are more comfortable as there is more rubber between you and the road. My recommendation is that you take the 18" option everytime ! Disco 4 TDV6HSE

Smart answer. Less road noise too? What about handling?

We have the TDv6S (18inch) and she handles just great. I hustle her over Hartside Pass ever week at top whack and she has never stepped out of line or lost any shape at all in the corners over there. Anyone who knows that road will know what a total test of any vehicles handling that road is. There are many offroad options over there too and when I am in the mood I dive down such a stretch for the hell of it. The extra rubber on the 18inch soaks up the rock steps far better than a 19" with far less chance of expensive rim damage. We used to have a TD5 disco with ACE, which could also corner prety well but every bump rattled your fillings and I avoided most offroad stretches to save on chiropractors bills. Disco 4 TDV6HSE

OK Smarticus, I think you've convinced me. 18 inch it is.
I was going to spend the money I would save on physiotherpists bills - but obviously that won't be necessary.
And if I start feeling too comfortable I can always fit the 19 inch rims at a later date.

I agonised over the same question when I was speccing my TDV6 S. In the end I decided that the the normal type 1 18inchers looked great. I reckon they look chunkier than the type 2's. The 19inchers look OK, but my S on 18inchers doesn't look in the slighest "underwheeled" like the 17 inch base model does.
Hope this helps.
