Sat Nav on the move without editing CCF |
|
Underneath the Driver seat pull the cable out that is connected to the Sat Nav DVD unit. On it you'll see three green wires. One of them is light green so ignore that. One is wound up with a yellow wire so ignore that one. The one green wire that is on its own, cut it and put tape around the two edges. Now attach the cable back to the Sat Nav DVD unit. And there you go, you can now use sat nav while car is moving. Land Rover LR3 SE v4.0

i have lr3 which is the american version of disco 3. i drove the car and sat nav was working while i was driving so i don't think anything else has been affected. the green wire comes from the abs which tells the sat nav whether car is moving so i dont think it should affect anything else. if i do notice anything i'll post it. also u can always reconnect the wire

that is probably because the satnav uses the speed and the gyro info for navigation in tunnels etc were gps signal is weak or not existing. Roel

I did a similar mod to this on my last Hilux.
But i extended the wires and put a switch in. Switch off, satnav on move. Switch back on, takes a minute for car to find itself again, but worked well.
I've been meaning to try on the D3 but wasn't sure which wire. Quite why a GPS needs a speedo pulse wire is beyond me!

That and the gyro and steering sensors are the reason that an in built GPS is significantly superior to the external units such as TomTom and Garmin. Try navigating in the tunnels under Paris some time with both - you'll soon see the difference. The inbuilt satnav will navigate relatively accurately for miles without an external GPS signal.
By looking at the sat nav diagnostics screen you can take a look at all of the input it's getting and making use of to ensure that your car really is where it says it is

Ah yes- I remember getting lost in the Paris tunnels when relying on TomTom. I'd never been in a tunnel with a junction before!....

Sorry, but as a devout technophobe, the more complex they get the more i love it.
Yea the Sat Nav does indeed have a back up plan for when you enter tunnels etc and it loses all GPS positioning information that shows you are on the Move is lost. It then relies upon your last known direction of travel and a distance travelled pulse modulated signal from the ABS to best guess where you now are.
If you disconnect the GPS antennea and disable the ABS input, you can of course fool the Sat Nav into believing you are stationary, and it will then allow you to enter destinations. However it will then never know where you really are LOL
