"predator" wheels and knobbly tyres |
|
Hi folks. I've been mag-browsing and would like to know if anyone has put those black "predator" wheels (on sale @ John Craddock's), on their Disco.
I'm also curious if those Cooper STT's are any good in wet conditions, as I'm not too chuffed with the General Grabber's I have on at the minute, being that I seem to get dragged into the large and numerous puddles we have in the Angus County at the moment, which doesn't give a nice driving experience.
I suppose I could slow down a bit, but where's the fun in that???
Would I be correct that knobbly's would disperse the water better, or leave me in a whole load of poop, than road tyres?
Anyway, as always, your comments and views are welcome.
Bye for now.

Goodyear have a simple 1-5 rating system. I know it's not the Cooper STT, but the Wrangler MTR isn't too disimilar and both are MT tyres.
Goodyear rate the MTR 1/5 on wet roads:
http://www.goodyear.eu/uk_en/tires/4x4/wra...rom=browse
You'll disperse standing water ok, but you'll not brake or steer as well with an MT tyre on wet (or dry) roads. But you can't have it both ways, a less aggressive tread pattern which will be better on road will clog with mud much quicker than the open tread block pattern of an MT.
I kept my set of MTR's on for about 6 months and just drove accordingly, apart from the extra noise and mpg they were fine. I did always have it in the back of my mind that an emergency stop on the road was going to take a bit longer though!
DiscoDunc used both ST and STT's on his late D3, so maybe he'll pick up on this thread and comment.
Should also add, that a couple of winters ago I found my MTR's brillant on fresh snow, but really rather poor on compacted snow and ice. I changed back to my Pirelli ATR's the next day, much less truamatic.

Thanks LT for all your input.
Never sure about these things and it's good to get some perspective.

Not fussed about fitting larger wheels than 17".
Had enough trouble with my Rangie scrubbing when I upgraded to 16"'s from 15"'s.
Guess I'll have to consider widths when changing wheels Hmm!
