Retrofit Running Boards/Side Steps for LR3

So these are quite expensive if you buy OEM ones and get someone to install them. I asked a guy here in Canada who was charging me between $200-$300 to install them. If you search online they cost about $500 Dollars plus customs etc. Luckily I made an offer of $300 to this Chinese seller on eBay and he counter offered me with $330 plus $50 for delivery and customs was only $25 since he put down value of item as $100. Since all LR parts are made in China anyway I decided to give this a go. The package arrived within 6 days and I thought instead of getting a mechanic to install them why don't I take a crack at it myself. How hard can it be. After almost installing the first one it is actually quite easy. As long as you have the tools that the instruction manual says which you should be able to buy at your local hardware store. This is the eBay link to the guy who I bought it off.

Here are some pics from his eBay post. The package is about 21kg and the build quality is pretty solid. You can't tell difference between these and the OEM ones.

Below is the manual.

So I have installed the running board and here are the pics.

The markings that are already on the plastic moulding that you have to cut. The cuts don't have to be perfect because they are hidden underneath the running boards anyway. What I found easy way to cut is that I did about five small holes with the drill machine all together in one corner which made enough space for saw to fit and then i sawed it down. Did the same with every corner.

Hmm, looks good, my problem is the trim though, that's all I need.

but I wasn't going to pay $1200+ for a pair of new ones just for new trim. These on the other hand....

Thanks.

Well on the eBay UK website there seems to be more choices of trims. There is this one.

but I think you might be talking about this trim.

The second ones are only 300 pounds which comes to about $470CAD plus customs tax to Canada. You could try those if you want.

No, I'm talking about the silver trim on the factory running boards, it's come off of the passenger side, and starting to come off on the driver side.

Same boards you have pictured actually. But you can only buy the trim with the running boards.

ok update on the install of running boards. Sawing the holes in the moulding is a real pain. Took me an hour to do one side and once I put moulding back on realised that I am supposed to take 3 nuts out of the bottom of bracket because they are supposed to be screwed on top of the plastic moulding and then through the brackets. So I am ending up taking the moulding back out again and unscrew the three screws from bottom of bracket Sad. Will remember this when I am installing the other side though.. why do i always have to learn from mistakes Sad. My forearms are killing me from all the sowing :/

When I'm employed again, I'll have to ask. If I had know, my mum was just in the UK 2 weeks ago, I could have got her to bring them back, tell everyone they were skis Smile

Thanks for the info

And Toxxic, they look great installed, just like factory. (or dealer actually)
