Water leak into front footwells

Hi all,

I've got a lot of water leaking in to my front footwells. Crying or Very sad
It's appearing on the door pillars, level with the dash.
Anyone like to offer some suggestions as to where it's coming from? I suspect the sunroof drains may be the problem but haven't a clue where they are to check they're not blocked.
Any help would be appreciated before I drown. Confused

Dave

Once you have followed the instructions on how to unblock the vents, remove the tread plates and lift your carpet. the main wiring loom sits in a depression in the floor and my electrics were submerged in water!!! See the post I submitted recently as I had exactly your problem. click on the link below.

Hi,

Thanks for the speedy response and the info, guys. I'll give that a go.
The photo's are really useful makes it very clear what I need to look for.
I'll let you know how it goes, may be a couple of days before I get a chance to do it though.
Thanks for the tip about the wiring looms, I'll check they're dried out properly too.
Now, when's the next dry day ................!! Laughing

Regards
Dave

If you need the use of an air compressor to blow through the drain tubes, then I'm only over the bridge in Rosyth Thumbs Up

While you are at it, you might check your cowl and A pillars as well.

I failed to mention in my last post there is a really quick fix to unblock the drain tube, only takes a couple of minutes. get a piece of cable similar to a bicycle brake inner cable and grease the first 6 inches or so and run it down the small hole under the front of the sunroof (you then don't have to drop your headlining) you will need a length of about 4 feet.
push it all the way down untill you see the water start to drain onto the floor by the rear of the front wheels. The drain tubes have a joint half way along the length of the tube so great care is needed when inserting the wire (hence the grease) otherwise water will still enter the car. If you use compressed air you run the risk of blowing the joint in the tube appart before the blockage is cleared. but once the wire has passed through the joint you can use as much force as it takes to clear the tube.
The reason the tubes block is because landrover, in their wisdom, crimmped the end of the tube to stop things crawling up the tube! this crimmping collects load of mud on the end and when dry it forms a hard clump of concrete like mud that seals the pipe.
You can see the offside one by removing the air intake housing and the rubber seal on the front wing. You are looking for a rubber tube with an end that looks like a posi drive screwdriver.
If you do decide to find this one cut the last 1/4 of an inch off the pipe and it will never block again. The one on the other side is a different matter and req a lot of strippning (mud flaps, wheel arch trim, inner plastic wing, and loosening the wing itself.)
Good luck and keep us posted
P.S. Do lift your carpets, you will be horrified by what you see it won't dry on it,s own!

Well that's me finally got a bit of dry weather to clear my sunroof drains. Problem is they don't appear to have been blocked. I used that flexible net curtain rod thingy. It went all the way down and eventually met up with something solid in both channels when about 4 feet of the thing was in. I assume it was clear through the end of the drains.
Does the air intake vent just pull off? I tried to get it out, so I could check the driver's side, but it wasn't for coming off.
When I withdrew it the rodding was dry Neutral I don't know whether that's good or bad. Haven't time to investigate further today.
Just thought I'd give all you good people a wee update. Thank you to everybody for the suggestions and advice so far. I hadn't a clue where to start. Bow down
Regards
Dave

yes the air intake grill does pull off with a little persuasion. when i rodded mine it didn't make any difference so I pulled the headliner down disconnected the tube and gave it a good blow, second puff cleared it. You will need to persevere, I was shocked when I lifted carpet and saw wiring loom submerged. Good luck

The water under the carpets is pretty bad. I took some of the trim off and had a look, not nice and it's a bit stinky too.
I didn't want to get to savage with the air intake as I wasn't sure how it fitted. Hopefully I'll get another go tomorrow.

DO THE TEST MENTIONED EARLIER! POUR WATER IN THE SUNROOF SURROUND NEAR THE DRAIN HOLES THEN LOOK UNDER THE CAR. WATER SHOULD LEAK OUT BEHIND BOTH FRONT WHEELS , IF IT DOESN'T THE PIPES ARE STILL BLOCKED.
