LFP battery replacement ? suggestions ? |
|
Back in 2009 I fitted a new secondary battery in my Disco 3.
At the time the largest capacity was an 80Ah Varta which with a small mod fitted perfectly.
Surprisingly the battery has lasted up till now (nearly 6 years) but does need replacement.
I am sure others have gone thru this, but I am looking for the largest replacment which will fit BUT in LiFePo4, obviously with built in battery management so its a straight drop in.
Any suggestions as to which Brand/model/etc ??

Terrible having to answer my own question.
Ok, instead of replacing my varta 80ah, I decided to add an addition (removable) battery box in the rear as I already had a 50A anderson connection under the back seat for my gear.
I ended up spending around $1500 for a fusion 100A LiFePo4 unit and an additional battery isolator relay unit.
Resulting problem was that the relay wouldn't drop until the battery had discharged low enough. Easy solution in this case as isolator was sitting on top of the battery... insert diodes into the negative lead. Actually I found one was enough, but if the run was shorter would have needed 2. this effectively raised the operation voltage from 12.8 + .7 = 13.5vdc I really should play around a bit and raise it to 13.8 or even 14.0 volts when there is actually no load... the easy way is to play with parrallel LED's. (different colours have different voltage drops
Fix found !
