Mileage Dropped After Oil Change - Why??

Ok, I can think of no earthly reason for this so I joined-up/stopped lurking and put this riddle to the group...

I've just had my first oil change. Earlier this week I changed out the factory oil for Castrol TXT Softec LL01 (fully synthetic, 5W-30 viscosity.) After this ordinary service all seemed ordinary -- no bells, lights, whistles, odd sounds/smells, leaks, nada -- except for the indication of fuel consumption. Around town, my mileage computer typically reads 12-13 liters per 100 km (around 10 on the highway, depending on my mood.) Not great but a lot better than the reading immediately following the service. Now it indicates that I'm burning about 16 liters per. How can this be? The mechanic is good, can think of no viable explanation, and swears that nothing wierd happened in the shop. He says that he just replaced the oil, changed the oil/fuel filters, and followed the LR-prescribed procedures. So what gives? Any ideas/thoughts/guesses? (For what it's worth, my vehicle has about 9,500 km and no other known "issues.")

Thanks.

Usually when mine comes back from the service, its computer has been reset, so it takes a while to work out a realistic average.

Thanks, Gareth.

What's "a while?" I've driven around 25 km since the service.

A lot more than that!! About a week of driving to get a decent average.
