What Shade Window Tints To Have??
Hi guys, I have my Disco booked for rear tints, but I'm not sure how dark to go, I have been offered 4 grades, 35% ( very light ), 25% ( still lightish) 15% (dark) and 5% (Very Dark)
I have provisionally gone for 5% but im worried this will be too dark, the idea is to stop people looking in, but also keep the sun off the kids in the summer and also cos it looks cool!!!
Any thoughts will be appreciated, cheers.

When I bought mine I was offered (by the dealer) 3 levels of tint.
1. Light tint
2. Factory tint
3. Dark tint
I opted for the factory tint and it looks fine. Just like standard.
It's a good idea to get a few opinions on 'tinternet though! Back in the game!

Hi There,
I had mine done with "Limo" tint, very black and extremely difficult to see in. it cuts out most of the sunlight and keeps the car cool. I also had the sunroofs done.
It can be a little tricky revearsing in the dark when there are no street lights but the mirrors and revearsing sensors overcome this.
I paid £400 all in and this included the "Supaglass" security glass, ie doesnt shatter and break up. its the typre used by police and security services.
There are a couple of photos in my galleryDuncan

What tint %age is the legal limit for front side windows?. I would adopt that at the sides and back. I dislike the look of the factory tints that have the rear side windows much darker than the front side windows. Looks to van-like.

Have a look at this site, it gives details and a link to VOSA,
you cant tint the front side windows much more than they are as standard, hence the "van like" look.
In the dark the darker tints can be difficult to see out of and would cause problems seeing other traffic.
The law changed around 2004 to prevent tinting of side windows as a result of some serious accicents caused by lack of visibility.
I'm no expert, just what the pentagon chap told me when i had my first one done 2 years ago. Since then Ive had 4 cars tinted and would have it done on all my future cars.Duncan

Haven't voted yet, as it's not clear which one is the factory tint. I have the factory tint, (appears to be standard here in the US), and it's about right. When I had a previous vehicle tinted by a specialist shop, I wanted the darkest tint. He stated to me that that was what hearses used, and I was not a hearse. He was right, so I got a dark tint, about like the one on my Land Rover now. I live in California, and it's fairly sunny. The tint was about right, & I received good advice. The only people who get darker tints live in areas like Arizona where it gets very hot in seasons that are not winter, and is sunny about 98% of the time. Even front windows (not windshields) are tinted there (but it's not legal in the PRK).
Also if your interior is dark, no one will be able to see in the vehicle with most tints as there won't be a great deal of reflective light. I see you live in England where it is cloudy a lot, so I'd probably go with a factory or even a slightly lighter tint.'06 LR3 4.4 V8 HSE Heavy Duty package, Satellite Radio, Luxury Package

Had my rear and boot windows tinted to 70%. My car is black, with the tints the vehicle looks like a van.
I will not be getting any tinted windows again.Standing on the shoulders of Giants.

I went the opposite way and had a very light tint, it is subtle to the point that in some lights it is hard to tell it has been tinted at all, think it was a 50% tint, wish I had gone for a bit darker really (around 30), don't like the black limo look though.

Well thanks guys, great fedback and plenty to think about, think Im going for the 15% (2nd darkest) because of the nightime reversing etc that Discodunc mentioned, especially as the wife drives it 60% of the time!!
Would you believe before we bought the Disco we were PXing her (immaculate) 2yr old Nissan X-Trail in when just before the dealer valued it she reversed it straight into one of the main dealer display rocks
