Camber bolt supports worn flat

I have today discovered this problem and been told its increasingly prevalent on the older Disco 3s.

About 2 months ago the wheel alignment was way out and could see this with the naked eye. Got the alignment done and they said it was off the chart and couldn't explain why.

I had the alignment done again today at another shop and they pointed out that the outside supports/stops for the camber bolt/eccentric bolt have been worn down or shorn off.

Drove on some seriously corrugated roads in April but the previous owner must have been a rally driver! (It's only done 83000km / 51000miles)

I was also told by the alignment folks and my indy that they have now seen a couple disco 3s with the same problem. The solution seems to be to weld a piece of flat bar in it's place.

Just wanted to know if there is anyone else who has had this problem and that the solutions are.

Here are the pics:

The one above is so bad that they can't get the camber to stay within tolerance!

Thanks!
Patrick

Patrick, Mine has done a few less miles, but no sign of this problem ( no driving on corrugations). I can see the need to resurrect the high spots that sit next to the cam edge of the camber bolts, but it suggests that the holes in the wishbone, or the bolts themselves must be worn also. I think, to get things back to the correct settings, you'll need the wishbones, complete with bushes / bolts etc replacing, (the bushes, and ball joint on the other end I think, are already installed in a new wishbone), you may need to check / rectify the upper links for wear also,, and then the camber / alignment set up again. Thumbs Up

Its normally caused by having the bolts too loose when doing an alignment...

So It's probably one of the alignment guys that cause this Evil or Very Mad

Probably almost impossible to make anyone accept responsibility and I guess the warranty won't cover it Big Cry

The welding option is probably my only option at this point.

Thanks for the info!

Finally got this resolved by the dealership I bought the car from. They agreed to fix it sice they sent it for so many alignments while they were sorting out the suspension issues.

They had someone weld a blob to replace the camber washer supports. Seems to have worked but it looks a little flimsy to me.

Does anyone know how much force gets put on these supports?

Not much, as the weight is transferred through the strut assy, to the chassis. Those bolts are there to provide the arms another mounting point, and provide wheel alignment
