275/65/18 Cooper Discoverer STT MUD tires on 18in LR wheels

For those of us with the 18in wheels, here is another option for you. Thanks to the local Cooper dealer, we test fitted some 275/65/18 true mud tires to the LR3 today. They fit! I haven't found any rubbing in either of the three height modes. The only problem thus far is that the spare wheel won't fit under the rear any more. I've mounted it inside the rear of the vehicle until I can find a competent welder to help me assemble the rear (swing-away) tire carrier. Now, I have a set of mud tires for real off-roading and if needed, I can pop on the wheels with the HPs. They do exhibit a little road noise but that was to be expected from a true mud tire. I haven't had it off road yet but will put together a short write up in a few weeks when I'll have a chance to put 'em to the real-world test. In the meantime, I'll check out the variance in the odometer using the GPS. I'm not sure of availability outside th US, but you guys already get the MTRs for the 19in wheels. Now, let me see if I can figure out how to attach some pictures...

Can't get the 18" in the UK or Europe. A friend of mine has just imported some 17" and they look fine for our off road use.

Below read Martins how pages for the gallery and pic's.

I considered Cooper ST 265/70/17s on after-market wheels but they will not clear. Have decided to go with Cooper ST 245/70/17s.

The later are what I have tried and are fine, but I will be using original wheels for the time being.

If you are considering the Cooper STT's which are a great tough tyre I would recommend fitting these to an after market rim as the noise around town will drive you crazy. There is a SIGNIFICANT increase in noise and decrease in poise with the STT. It is also too much of a pain in the Censored to keep changing tyres on the same rim just to go and play.Perhaps the ST is a better tyre to fit and leave on all the time;although these tyres were quite noisy on my previous 4wd as well.

Okay, so I'm less thrilled than I was at first. There is a small amount of rubbing (plastic inner fender) at the front of the rear wheels at full lean/articulation when in normal mode.

Do NOT run out and buy these things just yet. The jury is still out...

This may end up turning into a $$$$ test.
