BFG A/Ts

My d3 is on 18'' rims and the tyre size thats on the vehicle at the moment is 255 60 18s but the only size BFG A/Ts I can source here in Ireland are 265 65 18s my question is has anybody had any experience of this size on the d3 and if so did they rub on full lock. P.S I don't like the thought of buying tyres over the internet prefering to go directly to the supplier to have the tyres fitted. Any info would be appreciated.

I think they will rub,you may need the llams kit.
I run 245/70/17,as they won't and they are LT rated,BFG A/T
But then you will have to change the rims as well, which i had to do.
In Aus,we have the 2.7l D4 that has the smaller brakes, but it is on runout at the moment,D4.

BFG A/Ts

I have had the BFG ATs in 265/65/18 fitted new by the dealer when i bought my D3 in 3007 (MY08). They have now covered 73,00Kms with a lot of off-roading and towing a camper trailer. No punctures, excellent traction and some increase in road noise (although because I've had them from new I really don't have a benchmark). Given current wear, they will do at least another 20,00Kms.

When they were fitted and probably for the first year or 2 there was some rubbing at loww speed on full lock (easy solution, keep to just under full lock whic makes minimal difference to the turning circle). I also had some scraping from the rear wheel well lining when hitting eashaways at high speed (the sort of thing found on many of our outback tracks). That seems to have settled now, as I've not experience it for 2-3 years (presumably as the diameter has decreased slightly with wear).

I will probably buy another set if I still have the vehicle in another couple of years.

Cheers,
Martin

I looked into BFGs when I changed, but decided to go for the GGs instead because of rubbing issues which had been experienced by others, I also seem to remember there was a "problem" with the overall diameter of the tyre which could cause not only speedo problems but DSC problems, but then again I might have made that up Whistle

I have 265/70/17 tyres (GG AT2 though not BFG), which are exactly the same size as 265/65/18.

As Martin said, slight scraping of the wheel well liner. Nothing to worry about. It's the absolute largest tyre you can fit with the stock suspension setup. Any tiny bit larger and you'll have rubbing.

Did a quick search. The BFG 265/65/18's are 805mm in diameter. My Cooper 285/60/18 LtZ's are 800mm.
The Pirelli 255/55/19 tyres I did have on, are 763mm in diameter.

Cheers, Craig

Thanks for all the imput I sourced a set of general grabber A/Ts in the correct size some said thry would be nosie but I haven't found this to be so although my reference would be a defender 90 with BFG A/Ts which is probably the reason that the d3 seams so quiet.
