Wanted: inexpensive motorbike trailer |
|
I thought I'd ask on here, since lots of folks seem to tow and someone might be selling. I'm looking for an inexpensive (as cheap as possible) trailer on which I can tow a motorcycle. Will gladly take a dedicated bike trailer, or alternatively a more general trailer which could be pressed into service for bikes. Would even consider a motorbike dolly type contraption, on the grounds that it's cheap!
The main usage will be to tow my motorbike with me when I go to visit Alex Engineering up near Tring; I'll then be able to leave my car with them and go home on the bike, reversing the process when I go to collect my car.
Let me know what you have (and how little you want for it!).

Best bet IMO is to buy a small camping trailer and then remove the sides/re-floor it. I have one, which I am considering making a bit like thunderbird two - where I can remove the main box of the trailer with it full of my camping gear and have a bed suitable for carrying my bike on underneath.
I am in the same boat, my indy doesn't do loan cars and it can be a pain having to get my missus to make the 50 mile round trip twice to pick me up and drop me off.
Failing that, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50cc-Baotian-mop...19d0eea215 2014 D4 XS

Chalky - it's pretty good value if you're buying new. I want something used, since I'm probably going to only use it a couple of times per year.
Currently looking at something like this:

Irony of ironies, I need to go and visit Alex Engineering next week some time, so if I can pick up a trailer this weekend cheap I will...

Yep, you win that contest fair and square, you aint getting anything cheaper than £10:50 to tow a Motorbike
Just hope its still there when you reach your intended destination, that looks like something that could cause a serious accident Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Why would you think that?
These kinds of towing dollies for motorcycles are used a lot in the USA and in Germany. The bike is firmly strapped down by the front wheel, it runs in neutral and goes where the car goes. Doesn't seem much more risky than a "normal" trailer?
(By the way, that's £40.50 so far, it's £30 p+p!).

It just looks unsafe to me, the ratchet straps make it look a bit Heath Robinson ?
And from my experience of towing Moto-X / enduro bikes I wouldn't like that strap rubbing against my expensive Kashima coated stanchions ?
The roads in the U.S and Germany are a lot better finished than ours, it's just my opinion I can't see me using one that's all. Only dead fish go with the Flow !

If you only want if a couple of times a year you may as well hire one when needed , last time cost me £15 for the day, no maintenance to worry about, no storage issues and wondering when the local scrap thiefs are going to help themselves to it etc.

hrm, £15 a day seems reasonable! Best I can find seems to be about £25/day though...and I'd really need it for a couple of days at a time. Got any links to cheap trailer hire?

Used local Indespension depot at £15 for 1 day , £25 for 2 days ,
You sometimes have to barter with them , but they would rather it be out on hire than sitting in their yard
