I tow a caravan around the nation on frequent occasions with my 2006 Disco 3 and met a chap in South Australia some time ago who alerted me to your site.
Two weeks ago I was driving along a city street and my vehicle suddenly slipped out of gear (although the gear lever stayed in postion). I slipped the lever into the neutral position, then back into drive and it engaged as normal.
In a reasonable ammount of driving since then it has not happened again.
I have taken it to the local dealer who could not find anything wrong, though I dont have great confidence in them.
I am a little concerned because in a couple of weeks I am leaving on a trip accross Australia and will be in the outback for nearly 3500kms.
I would appreciate your thoughts.
Regards

See the thread immediatley before your - "Automatic Gear Lever Pivot". It is a common problem and had been covered here many times before. There is a linkage to the gearbox that needs to be lubricated or replaced. It is accessible by removing the plastic tray under the transmission.

Had the exact same issue last year after the Discos 3rd service.
I remember the post on here about the pivot lever and duely gave it a spray from the ground at drivers door, a spray of teflon based lube and it has never happened since. ATB
