OEM Wranglers - Any good?
Picked up my new D4 yesterday and it is shod with these rather than the Pirelli Scorpions on the last one.
How do people here rate them vs the Pirellis?

Hi steve,
i have an 07 D3. i have only ever run GY Wranglers the M+S type, Not HP. Albeit im running in 18inch version, but i have found them to be a relatively good all round tyre, once your not going doing too much mud plugging. good all round grip in both wet and dry. only complaint id have is that once the thread gets low on them the aqua plaining can be exciting on excessive standing water i find. but then again, id expect most tyres to act that way with low thread under a 2.5t vehicle travelling at 60mph. i have averaged about 25k miles a set. PDF thingy in my gallery regarding milage of sets i have gone through. hope that helps.

Scorpions are IMHO
They wear very quickly give a poor ride, tramline a lot and are hopeless in snow / mud etc.
The Goodyears lasted exceptionally well on a D2 but don't know about D3/D4 yet! They do feel much more assured on the road with no tramlining. Others report that they become very noisy when worn.
That all said, when they are worn out, I will be going back to General Grabber AT. Far better looking tyre, no problems on the road and good confident tyre off road.

For the D3 Wranglers were regarded as the OEM tyres of choice. So much so quite a few asked for a wheel swop with another D3 at delivery (at the time they came either Wranglers of Scorps).
When brand new the OEM Scorpions had the most grip but the shocking wear rate, tramlining and dull performance when cold let them down.
I bought a set of 18" wheels last year shod with OEM Scorpions and the only 'good' thing about them is that they only last a year!Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Ok In answer to my own question:
I have found the Wranglers to be complete sh te Every time I have off-roaded in them, I have ended up having 'Contact" due to lack of grip.
On my last D4 shod with Wintracs, i NEVER had an issue. The Wintracs worked superbly in ALL conditions. The Wranglers have been absolute W
As you may have guessed, I am not happy. I now have the Wintracs back on. Also, with the Wranglers, I found the the car would drift in the wet with little provocation. The Vredesteins were absoultely sound.

I love my Goodyear Wranglers M+S...
For off-roading I would use proper off-road tyres.
Just like AJS4X4 says... can't have it all.

I think you have it wrong fella - I think Andy is very impressed with the Vredesteins as am I.
And as for the comment, re off roading You'd use off road tyres. You might want to consider that :
1. Not everyone has two sets of wheels.
2. Not everyone is able to change wheels on a whim
3. Sometimes conditions don't give sufficient warning to do 2 even if 1 applies!! LOL!

Seems you've got it wrong afterall...
1. Who is Andy? It's great you're on first name terms here with someone, but I have no idea who Andy is.
2. Nobody said anything about changing wheels on a whim. If I go to an off-road event I put off-road tyres on my car, I'm not referring to airjacking my vehicle for every puddle I meet on the road.
3. If your No.2 applies, then how could that even be possible to carry out since your No. 1 states there are no wheels to change with? LOL!???
As I said, I love my Goodyear Wranglers M+S, where you saw Vredestein mentioned in my post
is beyond me.

I didn't realise I had the authority to speak for everyone that drives
a car here, but since you assume I do, I only meant that I myself would
drive with off-road tyres for off roading and what everyone else does is up to them.
