There is a procedure, but not actionable by the dealers...
This is to prevent unscruplous motor traders slowing down or speeding up vehicles for their own benefit
it is actionable by IDS but requires an 'engineering code' from LR at Gaydon Rolling Eyes

why do you want to do this ?

I've noticed that above 50ish it reads progressively faster than my TomTom shows using its clever GPSness to work out speed. But then the TomTom is as accurate as a what ??? Is it ? I have no idea ?

Both my Alfa and the D3 report lower readings than my TomTom GPS. My dealer said that it wasn't possible to recalibrate the electronic speedo but I have read of adjustable devices being installed for those that run larger tyres. Admittedly, not for a Land Rover but a Censored (won't mention its name).

From what TFC says, maybe just find a dealer with a 'friendly ear' and access to IDS and the LR code.

Here in Australia I have learnt to live with mine as both readings are optimistic so I do not fear the lights, camera, action of the law.

Because I changed from 255/60R18 to 285/60R18 resulting in the spedo not reporting true speed, ie: approx 69 when speedo says 65.. I'd say that is a legit reason. I removed the junk tires that came on the LR3.

LR would probably comment that the vehicle is outside of the type approval with those tyres on, although it's probably worth approaching your dealer to state your case...
BTW, aren't Goodyear Wranglers an American tyire? Wink

goodyear tyres

Well, goodyear tires like everything else these days i'd say are multinational. Actually the stock tyres shipped on the vehicles goodyear are produced in germany. These tyres had 20,000 miles on them. In the basic process of dismounting them, 2 of the sideways just crumbled. There are process of recal of speedo for most US cars. While the size of the new tyre is not stock, it's actually rated for a heavier load than the stock tyre.

G'day tlt, wouldn't be able to supply a photo of the old tyres/tires showing the damage by any chance?

TIA, Leigh

Yes, i'll post the pics of old and new - note:the loaner car I had, with 6k miles on it had the same rear wheel alignment issue as mine, however I still had to pay for a 4 wheel alignment.

Does someone have an e-mail contact for LR at Gaydon, or perhaps in the area and can stop by and ask for me. I asked the dealer, and provided them with the information I got here, they completely ignored my request...

thanks

tlt, unfortunately such requests have to go through the dealer network, is there another dealer you could phone to see if they are more receptive? if not, i'd put the request in writing or email to the original dealer, copied to LR's US office.....
