Insurance Dilema

Despite posting on previous threads that I was happy with Aviva insurance on the Disco they have just come back with a renewal quote that is way too high.

Bottom line - with SWMBO as main, me and 2 kids as named driver they have come back wtih a renewal price of £578

If I take the kids off it goes down to £458

Looking on Go Compare or similar I get £265 for just me and SWMBO with Adrmiral - this seems very low.

Tesco for instance is £385 for just SWMBO and me. S Censored t with a stripe version is lower but dont like this option

The Admiral one looks better than my Aviva in that its an Excess of £200 ( Aviva is £500) and includes a replacement car, Aviva doesnt.

Anyone had any dealings with Admiral ?

Thanks in advance

Try LV, very good to deal with (I've made 2 non fault claims) and good price. Premiums haven't increased for me over the last 3 years.

All inc. with business use and wife to drive, courtesy car etc. £360.

Thumbs Up

Will try both.

I am keen to keep them on as it benefits me at times (drunk) but at £300 premium I can get a lot of cabs and still be quids in

I have, today signed up with Admiral on a multi-car policy, same price as yours for Disco, although they state courtesy car if your car is a write off they will not supply a courtesy car unless you take out an additional insurance, cost me £16.60, and that will give you 21 days of courtesy car, did not think that was to bad an addition to take on.

Other than that seems OK for my needs, mine includes business use aswell, NFU was £675, so a big saving, also my son, 17, just passed test saved him a staggering £1565 for his first years insurance so he is well pleased with that and the other 2 cars on the policy l have saved 50%.

I have used them for the last couple of years, never had a claim though and to be honest thats the only way of telling if a company is any good. Rolling Eyes

Just paid £300 to AA for Myself and SWMBO, this price includes an insurance to cover me for the cost of the excesses in case of an accident. The insurance company is AXA and the excess is £400 mandatory, hence the insurance.

I can confirm that the Admiral claims process is OK! x3

They try and rape you on renewal every year but get bartered down easily.

I've been with both Elephant and Admiral (same company) and have no complaints about either, but haven't had to claim. Had policies with standard and modified, 4x4 and hotch-hatch/super saloon and their prices were always very good. Thumbs Up

I just left them. Never had any problems claiming to be honest. I had 2x claims and both got sorted out. One took a year to sort though and got dealt with through a third party company as It was a foreign truck that wiped me out. The renewal this year was a total rip so ended up leaving them.

Be wary of elephant unless they've altered their policy documents if you tow a trailer. I do on many occasions but always borrowed from different farmer friend. When I took the policy, I did it over the phone and asked specifically if I was covered to tow a trailer. Yes they said. Documents came and yes trailer cover. Much later {best part of a year} I came across a wee bit at the back {well away from the trailer info} saying I was only covered to tow a trailer if I owned it. !!![/b]

Do any of you guys use your cars offroad. I didn't think these companies offered offroad insurance, which includes "green lanes"

Just moved to Admiral from Land Rover after being quoted around £1000 [for business use].
Did the 'money supermarket' search and finally settled with Admiral at £380
But I had to pay up front, whereby LR was monthly instalments.
Admiral had a surcharge of approx £160 if I wanted to pay monthly, but for £380 that wasn't a big issue.

They'll also push to get your other car on their policy and offer you an upfront discount - even if your other car doesn't need insuring for another year.
If you don't take it out then, you just pay back the £30 discount they gave you.

All in all, seems a decent policy Thumbs Up

BTW, found it difficult getting insurance as most other companies didn't want to know because of fitted sump protection plate. Shocked

Just renewed and went with Aviva for £280 (protected NCD and total excess of £150) as they seemed the best all round cover.
It's a pity that no insurance company will spend half as much effort in retaining your business as attracting it in the first place.
