Another trailer socket question |
|
I've recently taken delivery of a 59 reg D4 which had 12n and 12s trailer sockets Dealer fitted. However, as my caravan has the newer 13-pin plug, I bought the LR 13-pin socket kit. I've just fitted it and tried it on the caravan. Although I haven't towed the caravan yet, but when I coupled up and put the car into reverse, the reversing sensors were permanently on and the ATC green light was flashing. I have just read that the green ATC light may change to solid after moving, but the reversing sensor issue; does that mean a trip to the Dealer?
I did the same on my D3, and everything worked fine straight away.
Thanks.

ATC is armed with either a solid green or flashing green light (should go to solid green after driving a bit).

Not sure why the parking sensors didn't switch off for you though - just press the PDC button to turn them off. But may be worth a trip to the dealer to have it checked out (make sure the tow pack is all enabled in the vehicle setup). Do you get the green trailer indicator when using indicators or headlights?
Just a thought. What is the part number of the adapter kit the dealer gave you? I am pretty sure there are different parts for the D3 tow pack and the D4 tow pack. The D3 part will not work correctly with the D4.

HI,
Yes, the trailer indicator on the dash was working ok. I got the kit from TLO specifically for the D4. I noticed that the part number was one letter different to the twin socket kit fitted, so I assume it's right.
Me thinks I'll have to pay that visit, although I'd have thought it would have been done before for the twin socket set up. Ah well.
Thanks.

As Zapp79 says it sounds as though the car not been "enabled" worth a visit to the dealers to update.

When we connect our 2011 D4 XS electrics to a trailer it always asks us ' Has a trailer been connected' then one has to confirm what sort. LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF

It certainly didn't do that, so it looks like a visit is required.
Thank you for your replies.

Had the update done, and all seems ok. I don't get the car asking anything about the type of trailer though, but is that just for ones fitted with the surround cameras?

good stuff
yes I think you need 'tow assist' (which is part of the surround camera pack) before it will ask about trailers

The trailer sockets need to be enabled dependant on the type of sockets fitted.
So if it was set up for the 12n & 12s it would then need to be changed to the 13 pin setting

Thanks Wiggs. That explains it then, as I initially said, the car had been fitted with twin sockets, and I changed to single 13-pin. Is that LR progress (i.e. money spinner!) as I had no such issues when changing the D3?

It never needed to be done on a D3 as the electrics worked as standard ( without enabling )
It's a D4 thing . You do have to enable or they don't work G4 Gone ...but not forgotten
