persist or sell ?

got an 06 tdv6 auto with a broken timing chain that had been off the road for 2 years , , it came with the parts to repair so i thought it was worth a go , after fitting said chain kit , 2nd hand rocker cover and oil filter housing , leak off pipes and fuel pump ! the thing now runs nicely ACCEPT theres no boost , so having read on here about actuator arms seizing i found that this was the case , got that freed off but it still doesnt pull properly , turbo is spinning freely so im at the point where i think it may need a new turbo actuator , i just dont know if ive got the energy to do the job or not , what should have been a relatively straight forward repair has turned into a royal PITA , any thoughts folks ??

Hi

Hats off to u for rebuilding it , must confess the first thing I would do is get a diagnostic reader on it to see what errors u have , plus ensuring the battery is in tip top condition in being fully charged

Also seeing it’s been standing for ages to check all ur intercooler hoses, Map / maf sensors are clean , brakes or EPB not binding , all the oils including fuel filter changed

The Autel AP200 white , is quite popular , very basic but may suit ur needs

Hope that helps

Unfortunately space is necessary, though more for all the bits & bobs that you take off. I just reduced my car down to a bit of a shell, limited by how much volume I had in my rescue car, and she went to the Norwegian scrappers like that. Sad

I would say it is more likely that the actuator arm has limited travel because the vanes in the turbo are clogged with soot. In most cases, lubricating the arm is a temporary fix because no common lubricant will withstand exhaust temperatures.

I also think it is unlikely that restoring boost, would be the end of your problems.

Are you sure its the turbo?

A blocked and dirty MAP sensor will cause a simular issue or a faulty egr valve will cause issues when accelerating

the turbo spins freely enough and from what i was told , the car had no running issues before the chain went so id be surprised if the vanes were gummed up but never say never

Does it drive ?, mate bought a pair of basket case D3's after a workshop gave up when they couldnt get one started after fitting new head gaskets. Struggled thru lots of canbus issues then it ran but will billow smoke, turned out the IC was split.
