I am looking to get some other alloys for my 2005 Disco 3 HSE either:-
Range Rover Sport 19" or Range Rover Y spoke 20"
I know that both will fit my Disco but is there any issue with the load that these alloys can take as I seem to remember seeing other posts that said that the Range Rover wheels didin't have suffcient load capacity.
Any advice would be grateful.

RRS alloys tend (if thay are genuine and not copies) to be weight rated at 900kg, whereas D3 alloys are 940kg. Its a bit like the tyre weight rating "discussion", should you stick with D3 spec tyres rated at 111 or above, or happily run RRS spec at 107 or 109?
Most of us that have used RRS (and FFRR) alloys have tending to make sure the tyre spec is good (so 111 or above), and worry less about the alloy weight rating, I guess using the logic that the tyre is likely to be the weaker link.
Please check any alloys you look at, as there a quite few few chinese copies, more so in 20's, rated at 600kg, for the VW Transpoter, but adverstised as RRS wheels - they do fit both. The weight rating will be cast into the back of the alloy somewhere, as ill the LR logo if they are genuine.
hope that helps

Thanks for the advice. I think I may go for a set of 20" RR Y spoke (supercharged stormer older style) but will it affect the ride quality significantly & what is the best profile of tryre to go for?

Got one of the guys on here a set of duruns 275 45 20 rated at 111v for £70 each
70 quid tyres on a BIG 4x4. what are they .. Remoulds? So the look of the wheels is far important than the quality of the tyre.???

£70 tyre is rated to the same as a £225 pirelli, it is a budget not remould.okay roadholding and off road traction wont be the same as your pirelli, but seeing as most discos potter about the streets, except for probably the folk on this forum who do a bit more with their landies, it is more than adequate for day to day driving. and is legally rated for the vehicle weight. unfortunately everyone cant afford 1000plus for named tyres, and if you dont do daft things in your disco then £280 for 4 budgets rather than 1 named tyre makes financial sense at these present times. Dont you think

I cant/not sure how to post images. But have pictures of wheels which failed on the D3 whilst swmbo was piloting. These were sold as genuine LR spec items from a company based North east Scotland who sell on ebay although turned out to be cheap chinese ....
Take care when putting anything other than LR wheels on a vehicle. a mate has a powder coating company and now refuses to touch anything from china in case of failure/comeback.
If someone lets me know how to get the pictures on I can put them up.
I'm sure they meet the minimum spec and i'm sure they are legal like you say. I'm sure I can find really cheap chinese brake pads too. You pays your money and others pay the price when the roadholding runs out... If you can't afford to put decent (not expensive - decent) tyres on an expensive heavy car it begs the question - what are your priorites??

It's your choice, but personally I'd rather shop around for the best deal on tyres and oem brake parts than buy budget. My main concern with budget tyres has always been braking performance. The D3 can weigh 3 tons with a few passengers on board and the standard brakes aren't anything to write home about.
If you don't drive you D3 in the wet, then maybe budget tyres make sense!!!

Thanks for the info
See pics as the result of cheap wheels even though I was assured theuy were genuine LR spec.. All others were also cracked just haddn't completely failed.
Very lucky that it was a disco as it stuck its "leg" out on air suspension and was able to be steered and braked to a halt safely. I reckon most vehicles would have tipped or become uncontrolable.
Only damage other than shaken swmbo was scuffed wheel arch and the brake disc backplate was a bit bent.
