Damn and blast!!!

Went to start my D4 tonight. All I got was a succession of warning lights, several clicks, blank screens, and silence!!!! Big Cry

It is freezing outside but that has never caused any problems before. It has been unused for the past couple of weeks due to my being away on holidays, but again I've done that before. The alarm/door locking is working fine, and it is responding to the key fob buttons fine.

It has started up fine this morning, and most other mornings this week since I arrived home.

Any ideas before I call up the dealership? (Will try again in the morning to get it going.....).

Have now connected it up to a battery charger which as you say indicates the voltage is very low. Only thing that worries me is that everything appears to have reset itself, like the date etc. Will it all work once charged?

Just reset the time and date after a recharge and all will be well.

Its seems to be a problem on the D4 in winter, mine died 3 times last winter with a flat battery, LR Assist called on each occasion and apparently it all checked out ok. Its done it twice this year also in the cold spells in fact I'm currently waiting for LR Assist to come and start it. No doubt he'll check it and tell me its all ok.

That's reassuring to hear. What I can't understand is that it has survived minus 18 degrees C temperatures last year and the year before that, OK it was being used slightly more than it has been just recently but even so. Wonder if there is a cure?

Should have left it on charge overnight, only problem is the thing is parked out on the verge some distance away from the garage......typical isn't it!

After 4 hours connected to the battery charger, my beloved D4 started on the button, and although it has gone and reset absolutely everything, including the Bluetooth phone pairing Banging Head all seems well at the moment. Have just driven it up to the local supermarket and back without issue.

Thing is, will it survive the night or is the battery shot?

Wasn't completely drained, according to the charger. Trouble is it was parked some distance away from the nearest power socket and I don't fancy leaving the charger plugged in overnight if it can be avoided! Not now the temperatures are going well below freezing.......!

LR Assist have attended yet again it all checks out ok. Into the dealers next week and let them sort it. LR man reckons that for every start you should run car for 20mins, he also said they'd be better with a dual battery as standard. He'd done 6 batteries already this morning, all tested and recharged

Mine gets driven about 6 miles each way to work and the same back. Mostly in the dark with all heting on and I have never had an issue with flat battery, stands outside at work and was in wind chill factor for some time last year of -14 but still started without issue. I would suggest that if the battery has gone flat a few times there may well be a duff battery and would be looking for it to be replaced.

I think it is the: "driving to the supermarket" protection device which causes LOW BATTERY warning. Get a shopping basket and save the lovely D4 for the real driving !!!!

Take your car to your nearest battery centre and have the battery tested to see if it's able to hold a charge. It's not uncommon for a Discovery to kill a battery in two years (regardless of how often you charge it) - and if yours is on its way out, you may want to replace it before you're really in trouble.

Big Cry

After it's annual service back at end January, in which the dealer reckoned he could find nothing wrong with the battery system on my D4, this morning the battery was flat once again.

Last time this happened (see earlier posts) I put it down to a period of non-use. But this time it had been in regular use with long distances right up to yesterday. The same symptoms apply though, in that a night where the temperature goes below freezing and the battery somehow seems to drain itself completely!

So this morning it was a call to LRA (who use AA Ireland) and wait for them to come out, which they did within the hour. Chap got it started and advised me to take it to the biggest franchised dealership in Dublin to see what they could do with it. AA chap reckons the vehicle is not shutting down properly.

So it is currently at said dealership, probably overnight.....

Something's gone badly wrong somewhere. My D4 coped perfectly with the freezing conditions and the snow of 2009 & 2010, it is only in this last winter of 2011 that it has started to go haywire....

Anyone got any more ideas as to what it could be? Have there been any service bulletins about this problem?
