The time is approaching for the D4’s first service. I’m in the Oxford/Swindon/Reading triangle so my dealer choices are Hartwells, Oxford, TH White, Swindon, or Lancaster’s, Reading. There’s a £100 difference between them quote-wise with the most expensive seeking just over £500!! I gather that, aside from routine tasks like checking bits and bobs and spraying lubricant everywhere, this is for little more than an oil change plus new oil and pollen filters.
There’s a local independent at £300.
Has anyone had experience of opting for an independent during the warranty period – particularly if problems embraced by the warranty were then identified during that period? If so, how straightforward has it been to impose on a franchised dealer to sort it? I should add that I’m unaware of any warranty work being required in my case – but then, for various reasons, I’ve only covered 7K since new. The only query I do have is a couple of “intermittent unknown P3201 faults†thrown up by the Faultmate – one on the Hevac and one on the instrument pack.
The next question is whether anyone has recent servicing experience of any of the aforementioned franchised dealers.
Any guidance appreciated.

I was told by my dealer that as long as the independent used LR parts then the warranty would not be affected.
We have an excellent LR specialist in Bristol, who although is not a dealer is a bona fide LR garage. Maybe you have someone in Oxon along the same lines?

My first service cost a lot less than that, just over €200, as the franchised dealer I used doesn't change things like the pollen filter unless it absolutely needs it, depending on mileage.... 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

Thanks guys. I think the phrase "I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure" best sums up my position here. Fortunately, I've got a week or so to get off the fence.

Somebody posted a link a while back about a website where you can get the best possible quote from a number of local to you dealers, I can't find the post at the moment but it was something along the lines of maindealerdiscount.com but I'm not 100& sure on that. There was a few people who said they had got better quotes from their own dealer using the website. Anybody remember the proper link? Cheers Ian

Thanks for the tip. Your memory was fine as it is maindealerdiscount.com. I tried their site and searched using several post codes (Oxford, West London and Birmingham) but all pointed to Guy Salmon in Bristol. Their quote though was the lowest I've seen.
Coincidentally, I secured a surprisingly low quote for my insurance renewal so, with the benefit of that saving and knowledge of the Guy Salmon figures, I decided to 'stay local' but on a price matched basis.
Maybe the DLVC will do a deal on car tax
