Detachable Towbar - Fitting for First Time |
|
Tried to fit my detachable towbar for the first time today - FAIL.
Couldn't get the key to lock and then remove it. The towbar seemed secure, but I was not convinced.
Had a search through the forums and best advice was to wack the towbar with a hammer.... hmmm.
Anyway, I found that if you hold the towbar with both hands, locate the tongue ready to go into the receiver, then slam it upwards it will engage fully - might need to do this a couple of times, but good for the pecs. The green locking wheel will completely cover the red bit and then you can lock and remove the key.
I guess from new the paint on the tongue and receiver needs fettling off a bit. MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

Shoot some wd40 up over and around the lot! If no joy sand paper on the end of something the same length and shove it in and around. The slightest bit of grit can cause the bar to not locate corrrectly and remove the key. I tend to leave mine in permanantley now.
