D3 Stopped ran to a hault. like it ran out of fuel. |
|
Hey guys ... D3 stopped like a fuel problem. But has over quarter tank. When i went to check if was maybe air at the valve on the bleed on back of the engine .. no pressure at all. So wondering is it the small fuel pump in the tank that may be gone faulty or possibly a dirty gauze on it.
Dropped the tank this eve but havnt went inside yet. On tranny side of the tank there looks like another small pump mouted on the chassis? connects back with a small hard plastic pipe, looks like a retun any one know what it is?? hoping its not injectors was no power loss or other symptoms before.
Does any one have any info on this or can offer any help?
Thanks in advance

Could be your rear belt has failed as this drives the HP fuel pump.. have you had the belts changed. The other pump is probrably the FBH fuel pump.

Thanks for that . looks great, but a little tricky.
Wondering is there an easy way to see if the high pressure belt is broken or loose. I had a quick look this morning before I left for work. Not a lot of room to operate at the back alright but I think I will give it a try later.
Thinking I would be better replacing the belt if I have to go in there anyways.
Wondering is there a quick way to check the belts before surgery, as its parts wont be to available til mid next week now. I have the diesel tank off also. The dealer said there sometimes are faulty pumps inside. when the ignition is turned on im sure i should hear a buzzing or feel some slight vibration when the pump is active and I didnt. Or does that small looking pump mounted on the chassis vacuum diesel from the tank and pump it to the prime system. It doesnt do anything when the ignition is turn on either.
Any more info before i start stripping more would be great .
Thanks for the help

Can you not get someone with a diagnostics's kit to see what if any error codes are logged it would at least steer you in the right direction instead of going at it blind so to speak..
You could waste a lot of time trying different things.
Have you let the car get very low on fuel lately it could simply be a blockage..

Change the fuel filter first, contaminated or dirty fuel can block a filter very quickly, even down to filling when a filling station tank is either about to run empty (sludge from the bottom of the tank) or has just had the tank filled up(stirring sludge up). Diesel absorbs water which will sink to the bottom of a static tank, this should be drained of periodically but in reality it is never done.
I always carry a spare fuel filter after experiencing this problem in the past. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Hey Guys .. well it turned out to be the pump in the tank. Now I know what that slight buzzing sound is when you turn on the key. So when you dont hear it and you fail to start you know our problem. While I had the tank off I said I may as well start there. Very little dirt in the tank the fine filter on the base of the pump was a little dirty but nothing major.
So i cleaned all the tank pump and components, put an ohm meter across the terminals of the pump and nothing. so connected it straight to a battery and tapped it gently and away it went. So i know its very much a roll of the dice could be 6 days or 6 months. It was friday morning so said i may aswell put it all back together as no parts until today.
Wondering could it have been a piece of grit somehow got in as it seems to be mechanical inside. But more likely to be the brushes so im sure it will revisit. Changed the filter while i was under too just incase it was causing extra resistance to pump it up..
Thanks for your help guys

We had this problem, there seems to be a few others that are now reporting this in-tank pump as failing. Interesting that yours restarted.
In case it helps, the LR part is stupidly expensive (mine was c£600), but exactly the same pump was fitted to a Peugeot 605 at c£200. Search by the part number and you will find it.
