Wrangler F1 or Cooper STT for snow?
I am in a dilemma regarding my tyre choice to drive to the Alps next week. My car has Goodyear Wrangler F1 tyres, which have covered 35k miles. They are probably on @4mm. I have been driving in the snow this afternoon, and they are not too good. They slide very easily, and are not filling me with confidence.
I have some Cooper STT tyres, which are 30% worn.
Coopers or Wranglers? which would you choose. I have chains for both sets, so if it gets bad I will be able to drive no matter. Its when its marginal I am concerned.

Think I'd go with the STT's unless it gets very icy, then the F1's might give more rubber contactNever get mad - get even !!

My old STT's were really good on snow. Bit noisy on the motorway, but fine.

I am sure the STT's will be great on soft snow. Its the packed snow/ice that worries me. I suppose I am fretting over nothing really. The F1 are crap in any kind of snow.

STTs
I used the STTs to do the Croisiere Blanc and managed quite a few of the sections without the need for snow chains
They could have been a bit wider though... to spread the vehicle weight a bit more... grip was fantastic, it was the weight of the vehicle in 2ft frozen snow that caused the problems Duncan

Wooohooo! I can't wait to get there. STT's now fitted and after a quick test yesterday they work fine. I also have snow chains to fit them if needed.
I have no chance of new tyres before Friday, I am working in Scotland all week, and the D3 is safe at home.

You may need your chains if you choose to drive to Samoens 1600 although we made it in a Punto just before the snow started dumping it down.
Great run down from the top in Morillon but watch for crossing the minor mountain roads if you have your own skis Richard

Just got back, and the STT's were definitely the right choice. No problems at all, even when it dumped snow all day on Wednesday, I never needed the chains.
