michael calvert - Would recommend you spend as long as you can looking inside the various vans at your local dealers to work out which lay out works best for your family purpose, such as combined shower/toilet cubicle or end wash room or seperate cubicle for each.

Twin axles should come with all those items you mention as the vans are normally at the higher end of the specification market, although apart from the fixed twin double bed, what you are asking for you would find on most caravans. No matter which layout you choose, you won't be sorry having the fixed double bed.

Most important thing to check for are signs of damp/mould on the interior around windows and where roof meets walls. Any other faults can generally be self fixed but damage from water ingress can be a costly repair. If previously serviced there should be a damp report (it shows both dry or damp)

Also make sure you read up on how to load things inside the van to make it safe to tow, put heavy things above the axle and as near to the floor as possible. Nose weight should also be checked etc. Even though you are using the best tow car you still need to take care not to load the rear end of the caravan with too much weight which can cause instability and snaking.

There are a lot of foreign made twin axles, many of which are chosen by "travellers" and can be difficult to insure. If you stick to the traditional UK market you should be fine but be aware twin axle are more prone to theft and what ever you buy you need at least one good quality wheel clamp and hitch lock.

Above all don't be afraid to ask other caravaners for help and advice when things don't seem to work right as we have all had to learn at some time. A weekend stay at a site close to home can be a good place to learn how to use the van.

Good Advice BBDisco3 Thumbs Up

I hired a caravan to try it out before we committed first time round Bow down

But I still slipped up when I bought a single axle 2 years ago and ended up changing to a twin axle within months because the shower room was too small and lost about £2K Big Cry
