Tyre Load Index
No doubt everybody has noticed there are lots of deals for RRS and Disco 3 alloys and tyres on ebay etc.
And also lots of comments about tyre choice on here.
Something has still got me in a bit of a quandry though. Most RRS alloys and tyre combinations on ebay have a load index of about 107. The manual for the
Disco 3 recommends 111/112.
Can any qualified person out there tell me really if 107 load index tyres are safe or really advisable on a Disco 3?
Perhaps it was just my bad luck, but I trashed 2 RRS 255/55 R18s on separate occasions today in the peaks.
They both ended up with holes in the sidewalls. The first one, I don't know what I went over, but after the second one (miles later) there wasn't much evidence of anything sharp where the tyre burst. I was braking down hill so there would have been a fair bit of the cars weight on that corner.
In future, I'm playing it safe and sticking to tyres that have the proper weight rating. YMMV.
Correct, the D3 tyres should be 111 or above.
After all, the D3 is heavier than the RRS.Matt

I pondered long and hard about Grabber AT2's on 109 LI ...but no reputable tyre dealer will put their name to sub 111/112 as that would be tantamount to accepting liability....I suspect that your insurer's \ LR warranty will take the same view 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
