I am looking at new winter tyres. We are talking non studded tyres for the Nordic condition (living in Norway). Dimension 255/55-19 or 255/50-19. What do you recommend?
Also, heard that Discovery 3 originally delivered with 19 inch wheels are fitted with larger breaks and can not be fitted with 18 inch wheels. Is this correct?

Not sure about the brake size... 19" was an option for my HSE and could not find any indication of a larger disc fitted for V8 HSE (the only model factory equipped with 19" wheels on this market). Think that any good "snow and ice" (with snowflake symbol, NOT the M+S category) soft-compound tyre would do. Nokian, Michelin, Pirelli, GoodYear - make your choice... Probably would try a Nokian TDV6 HSE Java Black, auto, difflock, fridge, winter, 7-seater, PDC, privacy, AHL, sunroof - 3rd row fixed

17" 18" & 19" will fit the TDV6
18" & 19" only on the V8 due to the larger brakes The End

For winter conditions in Norway my default recommendation would be studded Nokian Hakka SUVs, but I guess living in Oslo means you have to pay a fee to use studded tyres?
On my previous car (a Mitsubishi Pajero) I used Michelin 4x4 Alpin, and was happy with those. Plenty of grip, quiet and long lasting (they were still ok after 60000kms).
I have also driven a demo Disco3 with Nokian WR Suv that seemed ok.
For winter use I would use a higher profile tyre (18 or even 17" but that is just me

I use 245/70 Cooper wintermaster with studs on 17" D3 wheels ,good snow tyres but too much road noise. On my second TDV6 I have Michelin 255/55 18" tyres non-studed on 8-18 D3 wheels .They are very good winter tyres with good grip. and little noise.
I prefer the michelin tyres and will leave non stud tyres when I change ,I think the grip is almost as good on even ice compared to stud tyres andmuch more comfortable on road.

I have similar Cooper tyres as Olav and I fully agree with him regarding noise level. They ruins quiteness of D3.
Ice grip is good but on wet snow they seem to suffer pretty easily "snow planing". (width issue?)
On my opinion they are nonetheless good value for money (380€ cheaper than Nokian's SUV5).

I use 255/60-18 Nokian Hakkepelitta SUV without studs on my D3. They give a very good grip on snow and also during wet and ice conditions.

Use studded Nokian Hak 5's R19 255/55. Excellent in all snow conditions and wet asphalt. All our snow has melted though.....
