Enabling D4 tow electrics
Hi all - can anyone point me at someone who can enable the tow electrics on a D4 in the North West / Yorkshire area please? An idea of the going rate would be great too!
Thanks in advance.

Hi there - it's a 2012 - arrives next Thursday. There are a couple of comments on the forum that state the 2012 wiring kit is different that the 2011 but the part numbers are the same. I was looking at a wiring kit on e-bay but I'm wondering if it might be a dealer job

Slightly OT: Is there a saving in not specifying the tow kit (£500 factory option) when buying a new D4 and adding it done afterwards? I saw brand new original tow electrics on fleabay at £100... What do people normally do?

j4cko....i think you may have to have the dealer enable the electrics ....
at the moment the faultmate does not support the 2012 model

do you get the trailer icon on the dash when you have the electrics plugged in and indicating?
and are you saying you dont get the reversing beeper (PDC ) when hitched up and in reverse ?G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Thanks Wiggs - thinking it might be a dealer job as well. So, why didn't I specify the factory tow pack on a 56 grand motor?? Honestly - I forgot!! Let the abuse commence...!
Thanks all for comments. Cheers, H

D4 towbar electrics
Hi J4cko.
I recently fitted my old D3 tow electrics to my 2010 D4 and the lights and indicators were coming on all wrong, it was like a trip to Blackpool everytime i turned a corner or braked I posted a note here in December and was advised that they are different looms. Anyway thinking that they both do the same thing i.e. take power from the car loom connector and direct it to the right pin on the tow socket i set about tracing what wires did what.
After about two hours with a multimeter and a couple of small screwdrivers i had it all sorted and working fine. Its a tidy job too with most of the pins in the towbar loom socket simply 'unhooked' and relocated in the socket to match the right power feed to the right bulb on the trailer. I have a twin socket trailer socket and i had to swap two wires over but other than that everythings working fine......i haven't even had to get the electrics 'enabled' by a dealer, they work fine. The only nuisance is that when reversing with a trailer the beepers come on but they can be knocked off with the switch on the dashboard. I will check with my dealer what needs to be enabled in case i'm missing something important.
If you're thinking of doing the same let me know and i'll post some pics and explanation. 2003 Freelander 1

Getting it enabled turns off the rear PDC when electrics are connected
It also let's you select what you want the 7th pin on the electrics to do .. Ie ...reverse lights / fog lights etc
It also stops the terrain response knob from raising the car while a trailer is attachedG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Thanks Wiggs the reversing alarm is a bit of a pain but only once a month at the tip!! The fogs work all ok but i haven't tried the terrain response. Nevertheless i'll get it all checked and sorted next time i'm at the garage.2003 Freelander 1

Thanks Seamanm - sounds like it might be at the tipping point where I put tools down and get checkbook out.
By the way, mate of mine works in Engineering in JLR (on the Evoke) and he assures me that they don't just change things to keep the dealers locked in - it will be for real engineering reasons - well, actually, they've found a cheaper way of doing it!!
