Brake Squeak

There is a lot of sqeak from my D4 brakes at low speed, forward and backward. Does it matter? (Car has done 2000 miles; only happens when applying foot brake, not EPB (which I never use))

I got the continuous squeak but only when reversing slowly and controlling the speed with the foot brake. I booked the car in for a check (4 Jan 2010) and the next day the squeak stopped. It hopefully was just the brake pads bedding in. Rolling Eyes

In the days of drums and shoes, we could cure the squeal/squeak by chamfering the leading edge of the brake lining. Perhaps that's a dodge that could be applied here.

Had this problem since we got the car. Our driveway is on a slope and the loud squeak is very noticeable when reversing back in to it.
My wife had the car in at the local dealers and was told this was a known problem on the new model, they had been advised by Land Rover themselves that the problem is being looked into and advised that parts from the 2009 system were to be fitted in the interim. This was not done as it was felt for the sake of waiting for a proper fix this was a bit of a hassle having to put the car back into the garage.
Sorry I don't have more details but this is what my wife passed on to me while I was away.

Thanks for that Mike. Thumbs Up I'll raise that point when I visit the dealer in January.

I was at the dealers when mine was deliverd and it was doing it in reverse, it also does it very slightly now in reverse when im feathering the pedal.

I dont think its anything serious, probabaly just the new parts bedding in, or the shape of the handbreak shoes is slightly different and its causing it in reverse.

On the D3s the caliper slides were not lubricated and brakes could bind slightly. Maybe the same issue?

LR Engineering recognise this as a problem on a number of D4s and are working on a fix , fitting 2009 calipers was an initial idea from them but as of yet there is no %100 fix, will update when i find out, cheers

If LR are happy to put 2009 calipers on you may be able to fit 18 inch wheels. Very Happy

Mine squeaks as mwestcrew's. I hope to get it looked at when I return home at the beginning of February.

Mine squeak whilst reversing so 2009 calipers for mine please, and they can stay there!

Ditto for mine - squeaks in reverse, particularly going slowly downhill (my driveway!). Thankfully, I'm too deaf to hear it - only know coz my daughters grumble about it! And I'd be in for the 09 caliper fix too (and the 18" wheels!) Very Happy

My brake problems are slightly different. 10 days ago a red triangle warning low brake fluid (4300 miles). The fluid had gone just bellow minimum line. Topped it up and put a biro line to the point it settled. Now it is a couple of milimetres below the line. Topped up again (about an eggcup full), no loss after driving and over night. No discernable leak. Any views??

Sorry to resurrect an old topic but our December 2010 D4 has just been in for its first service and I asked them to look into the brake squeal when reversing. Just had a call from the dealer and they are replacing the brake pad sliders. Whatever they may be?????

I’m not sure if this is the same part mentioned in this thread as I am a non-technical owner.
