D4 towbar electrics...

I have my D4 ordered and have been looking at the towbar electrics. I fitted the whole towbar kit to my last D3 and I'm looking to do the same on the 4.
One question though.... are the MY12 (N&S) electrics different from the earlier D4/D3 ones? I've seen conflicting listings regarding their suitability.
Any further info would be great
Scott

The Landrover accessory site only lists the VPLAT0011 for the D4 no mention of a year change....so hopefully there is no difference...or back on ebay they go!! Rolling Eyes

Fitted my VPLAT0011 electrics on Saturday and they work fine without activation. Full functionality incl foglight operation.
Just as easy to fit as the D3 ones....and removed about the same amount of skin too whilst clipping it to the rear crossmember (without removing bumper). Hardest part was fixing the multiplug mount that sits below the rear light/bumper....that gap wasn't designed for large hands Mr. Green

Yup, the the trailer lights will work fine, but not the rear parking sensors i.e. they'll be bleeping at you as soon as you put it in reverse when you have a trailer connected instead of being disabled and also because the car doesn't know a trailer is connected it'll not hold it in gear down hill when you manually select a lower gear using Commandshift and then return to Drive.

Yes, I knew about the PDC. I'll get the dealer to activate the accessory file when its back up. Holding onto gears wasnt an issue in the last one (manual Rolling Eyes )

The stealer activated the trailer electrics today when SWMBO went up to drop off the v5 for the cherished transfer. They charged £63, not too bad I suppose.

Well, I've had a good week with the D4.
Fitted OEM mud flaps and they look good (instructions for the rear ones are cr*p but improvised with nuts and bolts and found an easier and better way to fit them).
While I was under the arches, I found out that my space saver was actually a new, full size wheel and tyre Thumbs Up
Got my OEM towbar of eBay for £143.
Got quoted £290 by LR dealer for OEM towbar electrics, fitting and activation. But was then only billed £234 today.
So full OEM towing setup for £377 compared to the £586 I was originally quoted by LR dealer. Very Happy

Yes the rear mudflap instructions are poor arent they!!

The picture of where the little bracket went wasnt very clear....the first rear flap took about 15mins whilst figuring it out....the other less than 5 minutes to fit.

My OE towbar expenditure was: Electrics £33 incl del, Detachable towbar £110 incl delivery, activation £63...

total of £206 (all genuine landrover) plus a couple of hours and skint knuckles fitting the loom Rolling Eyes

I think they forgot to charge me for activation, as the invoice only quotes parts and labour for fitting. I did query it, but wasn't going to push them when they said activation was done. £55-65 for activation would be about right.

For the mudflaps, I spent well over an hour looking for that Censored wee square hole. And then farting about with the screws when a bolt and nut is a much easier solution, and tightens up the fit better. You do need a good stubby screwdriver though to avoid wheels off.

Need to think about what's the next improvement Smile
