Key fob dead?

Hi there - need some help if possible. D3 (2005) is parked and on return Key Fob will not unlock it. Tried the manual unlock on the passenger handle - no joy. The key just turns in the sleeve and does not unlock the door. Had my wife bring out the spare fob and no luck with that either?? (Never used it before so could be dead) Any ideas, or do I need to call a specialist locksmith?

Thanks in advance.

Could be a flat battery
If you have a towbar you could try putting power to grey socket pin 3 is negative pin 4 is positive.
It will take a few minutes to bring the battety up to a good voltage where the key fob will unlock the doors but then you can open the bonnet and use some jump leads to start the car

Many thanks for this advice. Do you think this is a car battery issue and not a fob issue? Also when you say "power" do you mean "power from another battery"?

It could be either a key fob or a battery the fact that both keys dont work would make me investigate the dead battery.
The easy way to tell is to use a volt meter and test pins 3 and 4 of the grey socket if you have around 12v its the key fobs.

If it is the battery you will need to make a lead with two cables that connect your tow socket to a good power source such as another battery on a running vehicle or a battery charger. It only puts power slowly into the flat battery so needs to be left for around 30 minutes before trying to unlock the vehicle.
But if you are not good with vehicle electrics please ask someone who is

So managed finally to open the car, after Q20 into the manual lock and eventually loosening it up, it finally manually unlocked. Battery is good all power is normal. Both fobs test OK for output, so next is to check the receiver unit in the vehicle. Many thanks for your help so far.

Don't forget about the green splice! Passenger side (RHD) front cable tray.

All sorted, many thanks. Found the corroded wires and stripped them back - central locking up an operational, re-sealed and all is working again. Still battling to find the water ingression. Sunroof drains working fine. Aircon drain in place, windscreen nor leaking under high pressure. passenger footwell drying out.

Thanks again.
