Merc GL @ MIRA today
Went to MIRA today to take Merc up on an invite to give the new GL a run around the off-road bit of MIRA.
Very capable car !
Top of the range version they had was the V8 5.5 on 19" blings, and it went up and over everything without any trouble whatsoever.
Lots of switches to match the D3's / RRS off road knobs. ( counted 10 red lights glowing when in major off road mode ! )
Usual Merc safety features , which were tested to the full on the tarmac section - Elk / slalom / emergency stop tests (absolutely stops on a sixpence_ / very tight turning circle
Very comfortable 7 seater.
However ... Don't seem to have a spare £71k for the this version, or indeed £51k for the entry level spec.
But .. all in all, a very good day was had, and I think the RR & RRS may have some serious competition looming .................Somewhere in-between my old D3 and what's to come next .........

Saw it at the motor show, too big a fugly. If I had £70K to spend it would not be on that. It has already been tested against the D3 and lost. You have to be careful with off road courses too as they are manipulated to make the car look good. I can see it being a hit in the US though.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
