Service recall, intercooler shield?
Hi guys!
My LR4 is going back to my local LR dealer for a recall, a shield will be installed near the intercooler because there have been some incidents with ice in the intercooler.
I have been told this was done on the RRS last year and now on all LR4s.
Has anyone heard more on this, or has any info?
(my car is a LR4 SDV6 HSE -11 (built May this year)
This is my very first Land Rover and I was almost put off by all the stories being told around the internet, but I must say the car has worked liked a charm so far it is just awesome.
My local LR dealer is friendly and helpful and it feels good LR is pro active with recalls, so so far so good LR4 SDV6 HSE -11
Aaah, didn't realise you were Sweden based until your last post - that explains why I wouldn't have taken notice of the TSB if it had come up previously.

Sorry, I forget to enter that in my profile! My bad!
Anyways, shouldn't this TSB be a recall even in the UK? I mean the weather is not that different from here in Sweden?LR4 SDV6 HSE -11

Will this be an issue when driving a MY2012 UK Spec, up to northern Sweden in temperatures of down to -16ish?
I've just been told to cover my intercooler with cardboard and that it could get condensation inside which would then freeze.D4.5 Facelift, Lazer ST4, Prospeed underbody and rack, IID BT, Compomotive/BFG KO2, Series MFlaps, RAI, Dog Gd+XBB, Alive Tuned, T-Max/YellowTop, RemoteFBH, GlassesMod, WheelWinchMod, Jack Mod, LED Mods, Seized Crank Mod....

Alongside intercooler shield they also install partial shield for the main cooler behind the grill which is supposed to be used in winter time. That has actually two versions, either a plastic shield attached behind the grill with zip ties or a special more restrictive grill which replaces the original one.
My dealer instructed me to keep the intercooler shield there permanently but remove the main cooler shield during summer time. He also mentioned that the car shouldn't overheat if I forget to remove the main cooler shield unless I'm going to drive in very hot environment.

The intercooler shield is a bit of an oddity and strange choice. For those who are at risk of intercooler icing a small hole drilled into the lower pipework is a valid way of discharging the water without impacting the boost pressure. A tapped drain point is another option for those who want more control.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Would it be necessary for me in your opinion? I can blank of the coolers with cardboard easily enough but interfering with the intercooler maybe not.D4.5 Facelift, Lazer ST4, Prospeed underbody and rack, IID BT, Compomotive/BFG KO2, Series MFlaps, RAI, Dog Gd+XBB, Alive Tuned, T-Max/YellowTop, RemoteFBH, GlassesMod, WheelWinchMod, Jack Mod, LED Mods, Seized Crank Mod....

I don't know what the LTB contains but I understood from dealer that problem had something to do tolerating large temperature differences within components.
@spikekellyrm I wouldn't be too worried about it. LTB didn't have a dealer recall, it was just installed during normal service interval whenever that came. But install itself is pretty easy so if you want to have a peace of mind you can do it in just 15 minutes. Just take the front grill off, both shields can installed from there. Intercooler shield was pushed down to a small gap in front of the intercooler and it stays there without any attachment. Cooler shield is just attached to the backside of grill itself with zip ties. Dealer used some simple black plastic sheets.

Thanks, there was a bloke on Facebook that was pretty dramatic about it. I'll block the intercooler with cardboard but I won't make any internal changes, not for the sake of 3 weeks.D4.5 Facelift, Lazer ST4, Prospeed underbody and rack, IID BT, Compomotive/BFG KO2, Series MFlaps, RAI, Dog Gd+XBB, Alive Tuned, T-Max/YellowTop, RemoteFBH, GlassesMod, WheelWinchMod, Jack Mod, LED Mods, Seized Crank Mod....
