LR4 (2011) vs Jeep Grand Cherokee (2012)

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/suvs/1...ewall.html

the new jeep looks good and I like the rear wishbones (followed a few and looked at the Mclass merc before choosing the D4))
but no plans to change just yet
It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

They did a short test on the Jeep on last weeks Fifth Gear, seems to have a similar system to the D4 ie turning a knob to select different settings like mud and ruts sand etc. They seemed to like it the only complaints were the suspension was very hard in off road settings, they said it raised the suspension up to its highest point and then felt solid and the other complaint was the price at about £42000.

The spec list on the top shelf JGC is very long indeed. Has features that are not available on the D4 like heated rear seats, heated/cooled front seats, electrochromatic dimming side mirrors, heated steering wheel, radar cruise control, etc. Looks like this end of the luxury SUV market is heating up with competition from Jeep.

mine has heated rear seats
my friends has the radar cruise control and others here have heated steering wheels

so dimming side mirrors ..coming to a D4 near you..soon

cooled seats would be nice

Terain response

The Jeep "Terrain Response" doesnt come close to that of the D3 not to mention the D4. It works but the LR system is just decades ahead with response times and efficiency.

Pricing was interesting, they pay the same state side in dollars as we do pounds.

Perhaps we are also providing a subsidy to American buyers as well as everyone else in the world

Just to put your minds at rest incase you were thinking jeep or D4, there is no comparison, the Jeep
is a hard ride every bump felt, steering vague, sloping tailgate restricts boot and the only model
that has air suspension is the overland and as someone said in an earlier post starts at 42K ish,
I got offered one with a few extras 47K they offered me 18k for my 06 SE D3 3months ago,I
ordered a D4 day after, had it 3 weeks now, well pleased.

Norway 2007 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Auto Tonga GreenDiscovery 3

Ever wondered what the green plates on Norwegian cars are? Most Discoverys and Defenders and other similarly sized over here are commercials with only front seats due to only 25% of normal registration tax:

D4: 109-131K (commercial only 2 seats green plates from 76K)
FFRR: 175-283K
RRS: 117-238K
Evoque: 56-102K (not including 2wd)
Freelander: 51-75K (not including 2wd)
Defender: from 44K commercial only 2 seats

These are not official Landrover prices but taken from www.Finn.no Norwegian car sales website. Yesterday my D3 celebrated it's fifth birthday and tax for registering as 7-seat non commercial dropped so I can now take both my son and wife and leave the Skoda at home:)
Reclassification fee as non commercial drops every year and reaches zero at ten years old.

Test drove a jeep grand Cherokee overland 2011 for a couple of hours and limped away from the experience. They have put the park brake in as a foot pedal near the foot brake. If your taller than british standard height your left leg has to rest at a wierd angle, with no were to move it around. Total Censored Up, probably works okay in the LHD model.

One word or warning with regards to Cherokee's DEPRECIATION.
It's horrendous.

The worst car I have ever owned (and I've had a few including a Rover 620Ti so it has some competition) was a Jeep Cherokee. Always going wrong, left me starnded on several occasions, don't go there.
