Speed Camera Apps - Android
From all that I can gather, there is no way to persuade the OEM 2011 D4 satnav to display speed camera warnings.
I’m no speedster but I’d appreciate the reassurance of automatic notification of cameras - just in case I drift above the specified threshold at an inopportune moment.
A simple smartphone app might do the trick. Does anyone have experience of any Android apps that might address this? Ideally, I’m looking for something with a sd card based camera database i.e. something that does not rely on a permanently live data link.
Recommendations appreciated.

I have used 'CamerAlert : Android Speed Camera Warning System' with great success. free to try but requires a small subscription to keep the camera database updated.

the sat nav over here has it fitted standard, tells of speed, red light and bus lane cameras
I actually forgot I had it fitted until you posted this. I turned of the voice as its quite constant in the city as most junctions have a camera. It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

Another one for camalert just leave it running in the background its great and the most comprehensive database you will find.Tried some of the free ones and they cant be trusted as cameras are missing from the db.

Speed Camera Apps - Android
Thanks guys.
I think my plan is to try CamerAlert (now 59p from AndroidMarket), not least because the associated website (www.pocketgpsworld.com/cameralert-android.php) has a very comprehensive description of just what you get for your money.
I’d plan to run it in what they call list mode and with the phone allowed to slip into standby so that I can use the Disco satnav as normal and just have the smartphone dinging away in the background as I approach speed cameras (that’s the theory at least).
I’d also delay for now buying any PocketGPSWorld subscription (£20 p.a.). This is available to facilitate camera database updates but I’m not (yet) convinced that the camera network is changing sufficiently to justify the expense. We'll see.
Trapster is also an attractive option but it doesn’t seem to offer quite the same flexibility that CamerAlert does – however I can always try it later if CamerAlert doesn’t live up to expectations. Speed Camera Database (SCDB) looks like another possibility but I’ve struggled to extract sufficient background info from their website.

A couple of tips the app does not work in standby it will work in the background but not in standby .
You wont find any that do because the GPS needs to be active.
Secondly the camera database you will have access to when you first load will be of no use to you as it will be well out of date,it will only work with the subscription .Why does everybody think that this sort of comprehensive database should be available for free!
Over the last ten years I have found nothing that comes close to this DB, TT and co pilot both use these guys for there safety camera DBs as well as other apps
