Hi all.
I want to start carrying out a little self maintenance on the D3 such as oil and filter change, need to look at the gear lever fix as it's becoming a little stiff... and maybe other things like fixing steps etc.. I can't believe I'm actually doing this as I haven't worked on a car for nearly 24 years... i really do have the D3 bug..
I don't have a garage so it will have to be done on the drive (with lots of brews and warm clothes) so does anyone have any recommendations for vehicle ramps to give a little extra clearance to fit my stealth like frame (not) under the car.. Also.. I assume draining oil etc, the car needs to be level so would I need four ramps and how safe / easy would it be to get onto them?
Thanks all Selling my wifes Audi A3 2.0LTR FSI DSG Sport to help pay for her D3

I've gave up trying to find ramps years ago that are both wide enough for 4x4 tyres and strong enough to hold them up.
If I'm going to leave the wheels on to do a job I drive it up onto Concrete building blocks laid on their sides.

If you want to do more work Brakes etc you might want to think about axle stands and a trolley jack. Have a look at 'Bodsy's brake bible', he recommends some which I got.

The Difflock forum shop used to stock 4 x 4 wheel ramps. Try there, or give Anton a ring at OEC

IF you want a portable or fixed scissors table have a few words with Chris/Andy/Steve HERE
They do them in a range of sizes. Apparently one of their customers landed a helicopter on front lawn which spoilt the outlook from front window. Solution was a LARGE scissor table taking the chopper down to its underground garage. A bit James Bond like OR Thunderbirds are go!

That is nice. I don't know about you, but my Disco weights 6220 lbs with a full tank of fuel and rock sliders.
These units accomodate a 6000lbs vehicle, so in reality , you pushing' it my friend.I would not trust a lift that stretches our minimum requirement to their maximum capability.

You sure you've not got the rocks on there as well
According to the handbook, my HSE auto should clock in (with full tank) at circa 5990 lbs.
Plus, try not to lift it with a full tank, that could save a few lbs; it you are near empty (say a 1/4 tank) it would make the all up weight a more manageable 2630 kg (5785 lbs)
These units are stated at 2800 kg (6160 lbs) and I would guess that the stated limit is somewhat conservative and they are probably tested at much more than that. As I said, it's not mine so cannot speak from experience.
I guess a call to the manufacturer would answer any questions SHOULD anyone be minded to go this way.
