D4 LR Towing (wiring) Kit needs software activation! |
|
A word of warning: I bought a 13-pin towing wiring kit from my local LR dealer in the full expectation that I can easily do it myself - LR part number VPLAT0012. Sure enough the wiring kit can be DIY'd. However, on the last page of the instructions enclosed with the kit there is an addendum. The picture implies that after installation the software for this wiring kit needs to be 'activated'. Obviously by an authorised LR workshop with the necessary kit! Another stealth measure by LR to make the D4 difficult if not impossible to self maintain.

The D4 does need enabling ...the par=king sensors are not automatically silenced like the d3
dosent have to be a dealer .,.faultmate can enable the electrics aswell G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Well spotted. I asked my LR dealer who said the same and quoted £75 to install. Sound a lot for such a straightforward job but I guess it saves the hassle and still cheaper than a faultmate which I don't have.
