Secondary Turbo to be replaced??? |

I have had my Disco4 TDV6SE for just over a year now and have been extremely happy with its comfort and performance. Even the fuel consumption is great and I normally average just under 8L/100km on long trips.
I recently mentioned to my local dealer that I have noticed a fair amount of exhaust smoke being emitted on occasion. This is normally when I have had to accelerate quickly to join fast moving traffic or overtake another vehicle. They performed a series of diagnostic steps apparently recommended by LR and have now told me that the Secondary Turbo will need to be replaced with an upgraded one. It sounds like this is quite a big and expensive job and that my vehicle will be in the workshop for a few days.
I am not concerned about this from a financial point of view as the vehicle is still under warranty. However, I am a little bit worried about the potential future consequences of having this work done. I am obviously keen to have the smoke issue resolved but am wondering if there is anything that I should look out for when I get my car back. Has anybody else had this particular job done on their Disco4? I would appreciate any feedback or advice following your experience.

The turbo replacement is just in a very tight place and a crap job hence the few days in the workshop. you just need to remove some plates, the front propshaft and the exhaust to get to the turbo. er no, the body has to come off as it is a D4. Had one replaced on mine. Dealer did a great job getting it all back together with no rattles etc. MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Thanks for the feedback guys. Phew, Mowog I must say that the pic of your D4's body suspended like that looks very daunting. Glad to hear that there were no issues afterwards. Hopefully the LR guys know what they are doing when they tackle mine.

Mowog, whats your rear bumper setup?
Turbos have been replaced without the body off as suggested above. It is a total nightmare but can be done. You will require a small child's hands to access most of it. Tony

An update subsequent to my first post on this topic:
My D4 is back with me having spent a few days in the workshop. I am pleased to say that LR have done a great job and the smoking problem seems to have gone. They managed to fit the secondary turbo without lifting the body off (thank goodness) and were able to do the job by removing a front wheel and some panels.
I know this sounds strange (and maybe I am imagining it) but one thing that I do notice is that the fuel consumption doesn't seem to be as good as it used to be. I am wondering if there is perhaps an associated reason or explanation for this. Does anyone have any ideas?

Also had a secondary turbo changed in West Aus. Vehicle vastly improved to drive and actually fuel consumption decreased so maybe better days to come.
