Noisy windscreen wipers
Any suggestions for the following? Windscreen wipers are noisy - judder on each sweep unless it is raining heavily. I replaced the wipers - no change, still noisy. Due to a chip in the screen I had the whole screen replaced. Ah-ha! I thought, that will fix it! No change, wipers STILL noisy and juddery. Any suggestions - its driving me MAD!

Had the same, PITA.
I bought a set of the blades that have no metal work just a plastic blade with rubber, works great.

What make of wiper did you use? I had the same problem, replaced them with Valeo units and they are perfect again. They're starting to smear again now two years later, I have already ordered a new set; a job for this weeekend.
If I remember rightly it does matter what brand you use, others have complained that cheapies do judder even when new.-------------------------------------------------------------------

both front blades should not have any metal work anyway, only the rear wiper has metal work in it

If the wipers are juddering going in one direction, then OK on the reverse sweep, it could be due to the wiper arm being a bit distorted/twisted such that the blade is not held at a true 90° angle to the screen, this would make it judder depending on how much water (as lubricant) is on the screen.Clive

I had this myself and cured it by gently bending the wiper arm (with 2 adjustable spanners) done it one way and made it worse, so bent it a little at a time the other way until silent.

Glass polish the screen as well, that will help, recommend Autoglym glass polish, or if your a bit lazy, the fast glass spray...

Thanks all for your comments - I shall try all the solutions. I bought the wiper blades from the maindealer as a L/Rover spare, so as to be sure - but it made no difference!

Have you tried the old trick of wiping a lemon (fruit that is!!) across the wipers? Mine were noisy and juddering like a good un. A few wipes with a lemon from the fridge and they work fine now! Although the lemon is good for nothing now though covered in grime from the wipers.
Just don't tell the wife that the gin and tonics are without extras!
Try it with vinegar on a cloth as well. Although the D3 will smell like a fish and chip shop Well I took the plunge and bought one!

I had already changed the wiper blades and cleaned the screen with the proper glass cleaner, the only thing that worked for me was to gently bend the wiper arm to alter the angle that the wiper blade contacts the windscreen.

use bar keepers friend on your windscreen...mine was doing the exact same thing and it solved it straight away, also sorts the smearing issue, I got the tip of a car detailing forum. Its a cheap fix too!
